Behind The Tracks: STATUES - Big Freeze (Single) (2025)

"Big Freeze" was the first song written for Dopamine. I get restless when we’re waiting for mixes, masters, and pressing plants — so while the last album was being manufactured, I started writing again. Big Freeze came out first. It was the season of bad news: Trump almost re-elected, Sweden turning right, the world getting smaller and meaner by the minute. Political trainwrecks and environmental doom might suck to live through, but they make great fuel.

Musically, it’s The Replacements crashing headfirst into shoegaze distortion — desperate, loud, and half broken. The chorus is a wall of guitars, ten layers deep, like static piling up until it finally lifts. Lyrically, I kept seeing people on rooftops, waiting for the sky to crack open. It sounds bleak, but I can’t think of anything more beautiful to write about. I actually think life’s pretty great — which probably makes the whole thing even stranger.
