Interviews About Albums: No Kings Allowed - Dark Reign (2025)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Belgian Symphonic Metalcore band, No Kings Allowed, to ask questions about their album "Dark Reign"

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

Dark Reign is the most personal and intense record we have made so far. It is heavy, emotional, and technically challenging, but above all, it is real.

It reflects the chaos of the world right now: war, tyranny, and the systems that keep people silent. Each song is a form of resistance, a refusal to accept the darkness that has taken hold.

This is not just an EP. It is a statement.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

The title Dark Reign represents the age we live in, an era ruled by fear, greed, and corruption. But it is also about rebellion.

When darkness reigns, it is up to you to rise and fight back. That is the core of both our band name and this release.

There are No Kings Allowed. Not in our world, not in our minds, not in our hearts.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

All music was written by Jan Peter van Gaalen and Lenny Dobbelaere, while Jorgi VanHees and Yarno Lammens wrote the lyrics.

Everyone brought their own pain, energy, and experiences into it. We build everything together with no egos and no hierarchy, just purpose.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

We would choose Homesick.

It is the hardest, most technical, and at the same time the most emotional track we have ever created. It represents the balance we have been searching for, aggression fused with vulnerability.

When we play it, it feels like every note carries both rage and longing. It is the heartbeat of Dark Reign.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is, what is it?

Yes. Dark Reign is about confronting the systems that control us: war, corruption, tyranny, and blind leadership.

It is a wake-up call to those who feel powerless.

We are saying that you do not have to serve the darkness. You can fight it.
Even in the heaviest moments, this record carries a spark of defiance.

6. Are there some lyrics that you’d love to share?

These lines from Day of Reckoning capture the spirit of the whole EP:

When I feel alone these memories begin to fade
When I feel alone, burn down these bridges that we’ve made
But in the end
I’ll go away
This never ends
The day of Reckoning

It is about destruction and rebirth, watching everything collapse so something honest can finally rise.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album?

Musically, we have been deeply inspired by Orbit Culture, Lorna Shore, Malevolence, and Shadow of Intent. These bands master the blend of aggression, melody, and atmosphere.

Outside of music, our biggest inspiration has been the world itself: the chaos, the injustice, the people who still dare to speak up.

And personally, we owe everything to our families, friends, and fans who keep believing when the world goes dark and supported us, for example, when we got robbed in Italy….

8. Something to add?

Dark Reign is more than an EP. It is a declaration.

And with our Dark Reign Documentary Series, we are showing the real faces behind the masks for the first time.

We want people to see who we are, why we do this, and what we stand for.

If you have ever felt powerless, forgotten, or angry at what is happening around you, this record is for you.

Together, we rise.
