Interviews: All We Leave Behind

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Doom Metal/Gothic Metal band, All We Leave Behind, from France. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out just like that?

The name *All We Leave Behind* is actually inspired by a Paradise Lost song called *All You Leave Behind*. Paradise Lost has always been one of the biggest influences for the band, and especially for the two founders, POG and Olaf. So it felt natural to give a little tribute in our name.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I (Hell D) have always naturally written slow riffs — so much so that, in the bands I played with when I was younger, people often asked me to speed things up! On top of that, I’ve always been drawn to the heaviest and darkest tracks from the metal bands I’ve listened to since my teenage years. So doom was kind of the obvious path for me.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

POG and Olaf had crossed paths before. Tony is actually POG’s son, but Scrumb and I didn’t know anyone in the band before joining. So it was kind of a mix of old connections and fresh blood.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Tony: Metallica

Scrumb & POG: Paradise Lost

Hell D: Black Sabbath

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We usually dig into our riff banks, which we keep filling up with new ideas. The lyrics, which mostly come from POG, are inspired by real-world issues — religion, ecology, society… usually darker subjects, anything that really resonates with him.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was in Grenoble, at L’Ampérage — really cool venue!

7. Where would you like to act?

The Olympia in Paris. If we’re allowed to dream, that’s the one!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Opening for Paradise Lost or Candlemass would be absolutely insane!

9. Whom not?

No one in particular! We don’t have enemies yet!

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Personally, yes (Hell D), but less and less with time! The only real advice I can give is to play as many shows as possible — experience really kills the fear. Also, remember that making a mistake isn’t the end of the world; it happens to everyone.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Black Sabbath and Paradise Lost for the riffs and atmospheres. Personally, I also listened to a lot of prog, so bands like Opeth and Porcupine Tree sneak into my writing too.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

One fan once asked Tony for his phone number a few years back — the funny part is he was only 17 at the time, and she was 25!

13. What do you think of your fans?

I don’t know if we can already claim to have ‘fans,’ but there’s definitely a core group of people who keep coming back to our shows and are always excited to hear our new songs. They’re super friendly and warm — we feel lucky to have them.

14. What do you think of our site?

We’re really grateful that you give a voice to emerging bands like ours. It means a lot!

15. Something to add?

Thanks for everything, and we hope your readers will enjoy our new album!
