Interviews: Darah

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band Darah from Singapore. Check out the interview and enjoy the band!

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned, or did it just happen organically?

Early on, we were inspired a lot by Bloodbath. We wanted something that has a similar theme. The name that came up was “Darah”, a Malay word for “Blood”. It felt natural since it represents our roots.

2. Why did you choose to play this genre?

We love to play heavy, evil riffs and fast.

3. Did you know each other before forming the band?

Most of us went to the same school. We met in school through a common interest. 

4. What is each band member's favorite band?

Wow, that’s quite a hard question to answer. There are too many bands to choose from.

Hilman: Whitechapel

Islam: Meshuggah

Aidil: Bloodbath

Shu Kai: BLACKPINK and Elevator Bossa Nova Music

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Inspiration comes a lot from daily life experiences and what piss us off the most. 

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last show was a local show in Singapore at We Livehouse

7. Where would you like to perform in the future?

It would be cool if we could play Hammersonic Fest or play a couple of shows in Europe

8. Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with?

We were talking about this a few weeks back. Names that came up were Disrotten from Malaysia, Ursula, and Plague Bearer. We haven’t made any contact yet; it’s just the bands that have been on our radar for a while.

9. Is there anyone you wouldn’t want to collaborate with?

Hmm…. we definitely wouldn’t want to collab with Taylor Swift because it doesn’t make sense lol

10. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright? Do you have any tips for beginners on overcoming it?

It happens every time before you when you’re up next. Fuck it and play. At the end of the day, it’s about having fun and enjoying playing your music live in front of an audience.

11. Which bands have influenced you the most?

Bloodbath

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We’re probably not famous enough to get weird requests lol. We know we’ve made it if someone requests bath water from us lol.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are awesome, appreciate all the support they gave us throughout the year.
