Interviews: Malaskian
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Rock 'N' Roll band, Malaskian from the USA. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or come out just like that?
The band started out as a solo project. Malkasian is Sean’s last name. Felt appropriate, but the
band is made up of musicians Jordan Bettner, Sam Rucker, and Dave Rosenberg. Consider
“Malkasian” the fixer
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
It came naturally; blues-based alternative music is something we’ve always gravitated towards.
Others called it Heavy Blues before we even knew what that meant
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Jordan (drums) and Sean worked in a
hip-hop funk ensemble called Mothatung for years. Jordan and Sam (bass) are cousins who
have worked together since they were kids. They currently play together in a punk band called
Trash as well. Dave was recruited from DFunk here in Denver.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Jordan and Sam grew up on Rush. Favorite bands are impossible to answer as they change
weekly. We really like Clutch and Queens of the Stone Age
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Living life calls for deeper questions on the purpose of it all. This is an offering to our gods, whatever they may be and however they manifest themselves
6. Where was your last gig?
We played Lions Lair in Denver last month
7. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
When we first started out, we all had it. Exposure therapy, just keep going.
8. What bands have inspired you the most?
We are big Frank Zappa fans. He is unique in that he composed, arranged, rehearsed,
released, and marketed much of his own work for a long time. He, of course, had help in instances
from labels, but he is the pinnacle of the DIY ethos.
9. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Baby bird food into their mouth…gross
10. What do you think of your fans?
We appreciate them. They are everything to us.
11. What do you think of our site?
We love blogs and sites that promote underground music. Without you all, we do it in a vacuum
12. Something to add?
We are so grateful for these opportunities and the ability to share across all platforms. You all make
it worth it!
