Behind The Tracks: Hubris - Lightless Lantern (Single) (2025)
"Lightless Lantern" is track two on the upcoming full-length record, Acts of Sedition. It is the capitulation of an intro track we are eager to reveal. The song title is a reflection on Nietzsche's "Madman" speech from Der Frohliche Wissenschaft 125, which declares the death of God and the need for humanity to move onward into the beautiful darkness of his death. Instead of "lighting lanterns in the morning," our Lightless Lantern shows the way: swing your sword in darkness and revel in the death of petty tyrants. As such, the track art shows the audience the pitiful, headless corpse of a would-be king: still clutching at his useless riches even in death. The piece is a mini reveal designed by Daniel Oakes and is part of a piece we commissioned from the brilliant Santiago Jamarillo of Triple Seis Design.
