Interviews: Solar Sons
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal band, Solar Sons, from Scotland. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? You planned it or came out like that?
We read one time that we are all sons and daughters of the universe. We thought that was a cool concept, space dust dude. The alliteration of “Solar Sons” makes it catchy, and we are also a band containing family members.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
It’s very fun and gratifying music to play. There’s nothing like a rock show. We’ve played a few different styles over the years, and it’s all led to this. A more refined version of the band focused on the songs rather than individual parts.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Yes, we grew up together. Danny and I (Rory) are brothers, and Pete is our cousin.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Rory - Black Sabbath/Faith No More
Danny - Sabbath, Elder, Baroness
Pete - Iron Maiden
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Previous albums have been quite conceptual, and we’ve built a narrative through those albums. This album is more to the point and is about standing up for yourself and loved ones, being resilient, and diving headfirst into life without being afraid of the unknown.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was Ozzcore in Inverness, where we paid tribute to Ozzy Osbourne. Played some sabbath covers and some of our new album, it was amazing fun.
7. Where would you like to act?
We would like to get into Europe and across to Ireland, as well as more of England. We are quite well established in Scotland, but also love to play y your home country and never forget our home fans and friends.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
We would love to support Baroness, Mastodon, King Buffalo, Valley of the Sun, Elder, All Them Witches, Orange Goblin, or any band of that wider genre, really.
9. Whom not?
We love to play with any bands in the scene. We really like meeting new people and discovering new music too.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Great question. A little bit of nerves is a good thing; turn it into positive gig energy. It helps stay sharp and on your toes. Also, have a good attitude to every show. Play like it’s the last gig you’ll ever play. Or that this gig could get you onto the main stage at a big festival. And always play well. Don’t be lazy if the crowd is small or quiet. Most importantly, HAVE FUN!!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Sabbath, Maiden, Thin Lizzy, Megadeth, Testament, Deep Purple, Tool, AIC, Elder, Orange Goblin, Baroness, Green Lung - to name a few. But also local bands, our peers are a big influence, such as King Witch and Dog Tired are some titans of the Scottish scene.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Favourite pre-gig or jam snack! (It’s beer) Actually, a pretty good question.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We love them wholeheartedly. Every band says this, but fans are everything. Without fans, we’re just three dudes making music. Fans and live performance are what make a band.
14. What do you think of our site?
Your site is a library of bands to discover and a platform to showcase from. Without media outlets such as yours, it would be nearly impossible in this day and age for bands to reach the audience they desire and deserve.
15. Something to add?
Just to say thank you for taking the time to interview us, we really appreciate it! And we hope you are enjoying the new Solar Sons album! Cheers
