Track By Tracks: All We Leave Behind - In Absence Of Light (2025)
1. Darkness Prevails:
The title of this first song responds to the title of the LP, and this is the theme of the song:
when we stop to fight, when we give up, the dark side of mankind is never far away. The goal
was to have a hard-hitting opening riff and choruses that blend groove and dissonance, with
saturated keyboards that create a dramatic atmosphere. This is a perfect introduction to
everything that will follow in this LP.
2. Evil Sign:
The second single of the album – already a hymn of our last gigs, the main lyrics can be
growled by the crowd, happy to show their « Evil Sign », a hypnotic riff to imprint itself on
your brain, an overwhelming rhythm session, and melodic leads serving as a platform for lyrics
about the dark side of our existence.
3. Nailed to a dark fate:
A piano intro quickly followed by powerful riffs, maybe a little more catchy than usual, but
the theme is once again the curse of mankind, unable to stop his fall, so catchy perhaps, but
desperate for sure! Melodic leads by both POG and HellD, melancholic arpeggios, heavy
drum rhythms, and growling bass riffs to construct a good first single.
4. Falling Deeper:
The lyrics speak of the anxiety and despair one can feel, of moments when the darkness of
reality surpasses our worst fears – the music follows this somber atmosphere into which we
sink, one of the heaviest and doomiest songs of the LP, perfect for a romantic evening!
We believe there is a Black Sabbath feeling in the riffs of this song, even if it was not intentional.
5. The Curse:
This one deals with Love beyond Death, « you won’t live till I die » this sentence sum up the
atmosphere of this « power ballad » in our own way – the song starts with 12-strings
arpeggios and some desperate clean vocals, a new approach for us, and suddenly we switch
to a catchy riff followed by melodic leads we are quite proud of. It sounds great in concert.
6. Clarity Through Darkness:
This song responds to the introduction of the song « All the Lies Again» from our first album.
Same theme of atrocities committed by religions to hunt down and punish heretics – this
song is clearly influenced by black metal stuff: riffs and arpeggios, satanic melodic approach
– diabolus in musica!
7. The One You Fear To Name:
The story of this song is quite funny: POG wrote lyrics without music, and Tony had music
without any idea of lyrics. During a songwriting session, the two parts match together
perfectly without any tuning! The theme is the fallen angel, the one that everybody feels
beside him and that nobody wants to name – yet he has so many names! Satan, Lucifer, the
Prince of Darkness, the Devil, Mefistopheles, the Demon,…pick up the one that suits you – in
any case, it’s a pure Melodic Doom song, a pure AWLB song!
8. Epitaph Of The Pachyderms:
The main riff is inspired by Candlemass, dissonance, and doom spirit, with the heaviness
reminiscent of an elephant – the lyrics aptly describe an arrogant humanity, too blinded to
see its own downfall coming, like prehistoric pachyderms.
9. Endless Suffering:
A very ambitious and complex composition with a melodic solo in an oriental style that leads
into a second orchestral section with black metal influences – the track title speaks for itself
regarding the theme of the lyrics
10. Rise and Fall:
Another orchestral doom track, dark arpeggios, a voice from beyond the grave, and always
sad yet haunting melodies – lyrics deal with the myth of Prometheus, the irrepressible
human need to kill God, and to enslave the Earth for its own benefit
11. Ruins Of The World:
The album ends with this long and almost progressive track, which sums up the whole album
in terms of atmosphere and style. A surprise awaits you after 3 minutes, with an atmospheric
and melancholic passage before the return of an oppressive heaviness to conclude the song
and the album. Lyrics, once again, speak about the coming apocalypse and the emptiness of
Humanity.
