Behind The Tracks: Restive Nation - The Fortune Of Suffering (Single) (2025)

The fortune of suffering is a progressive rock track with nods to one of our favourites, "Opeth". The song blends hard-hitting and progressive instrumentation along with ethereal, dark electronics and orchestrations.

 

The lyrics focus on how some people deeply love to soak in their own misfortune and sadness and use it as a tool to entrap and suck the energy of the people around them. We wanted to harness this in the arrangement too, with the song having a false end and coming back in. This is to mimic the way in which people can constantly wallow in their own misery and religiously bring you down whenever you are in their own space. This new series of songs sees us take on different genres and forms. We think bands can be quite guilty of just wearing the influences on their sleeve so we enjoyed playing around with themes of identity in both the song and the imagery.
