Interviews About Albums: Ancient Settlers - Autumnus (2025)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Spanish Melodic Death Metal band, Ancient Settlers, to ask questions about their album "Autumnus"

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

Autumnus (Revisited) represents a full-circle moment for us. It’s not just a re-recording — it’s a reimagining of our earliest material with the experience, sound, and identity we’ve built over these years. We approached the EP with the intention of giving those songs the production, depth, and emotional weight they always deserved. Having Nia and Noelia on vocals also brought a completely new dimension that revitalized each track. It’s both a tribute to our origins and a statement of who we are today.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

“Autumnus” means “The Fall” in Latin, and that concept is deeply connected to the essence of the EP. The fall season represents transition, transformation, and the fragile boundary between decay and renewal.

When we chose this title, we wanted to reflect the idea that every ending carries the seed of a new beginning. Revisiting these songs years later mirrors that same cycle: letting the old version “fall” so it can be reborn with a new voice, a new energy, and a stronger artistic identity.

In that sense, Autumnus (Revisited) is both a farewell to who we were and a celebration of who we’ve become.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

The composition process is very collaborative. The band writes all the music collectively, shaping the arrangements, melodies, and structures together. The lyrics, however, were written by Antony Hammond, whose storytelling and thematic approach were essential to the identity of Autumnus from the beginning. This combination of musical and lyrical perspectives is a core part of the EP’s personality.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

A Monument Restored, by the melodies.

If we had to choose just one, it would be “A Monument Restored.” The song encapsulates the melodic essence of Ancient Settlers — emotional, powerful, and evocative. The interplay between the guitars, keys, and vocal layers makes it one of the tracks that benefits the most from this revisited production. It’s a song where the melodies truly shine and where the evolution of the band is most evident.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

Absolutely. The EP reflects on the future of humanity and the importance of valuing human life — especially the lives of those who migrate, flee conflict, or seek a better existence. It’s a reminder that progress, compassion, and coexistence are essential for the survival of any society. The themes invite the listener to think beyond borders and recognize our shared responsibility.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

A world you'll never know
See us walk along the darkness and be blessed
A world you′ll never know
Feel how the emptiness escapes right through your chest
A world you'll never see
It started as a game with the only loser being me
A world you'll never know
There′s only one way out and it leads us into sorrow

This excerpt represents resilience, identity, and the human capacity to rebuild even in the most uncertain conditions.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Musically, we drew from a mix of melodic death metal, modern metal, and cinematic influences. Bands that blend intensity with atmosphere have always inspired us. But beyond that, our personal experiences played a big role — especially witnessing the social and humanitarian challenges of recent years.

We owe a special thanks to everyone who has supported us since the original Autumnus release: friends, family, fans, and all the people who believed in the project from day one. And of course, to our new vocalists, who brought fresh strength and emotion to these songs.

8. Something to add?

Just that Autumnus (Revisited) is more than nostalgia — it’s a bridge between where we started and where we’re heading. We hope listeners feel the renewed energy and connect with the message behind the music. Thank you for giving us space to share this chapter, and we can’t wait for what comes next.
