Interviews: As The Palaces Burn

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal project, As The Palace Burn, from Brazil. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned, or did it just happen organically?

The name As The Palaces Burn came from the need to express transformation... the idea that sometimes old structures must burn so something stronger can be built. It wasn’t heavily planned; it emerged naturally, reflecting our identity and the intensity we put into our music.

2. Why did you choose to play this genre?

Heavy metal has always been the soundtrack of our lives. It gives us the freedom to express emotion, technique, intensity, and storytelling all at once. It’s the style where we feel most authentic.

3. Did you know each other before forming the band?

Diego, Gilson, and I met during our teenage years, and we had already worked together on smaller projects in the local scene. When Diego came up with the idea of forming the band, the lineup came together naturally, depending on each member’s moment and availability. Everything clicked organically, musically and personally. Our bassist Thiago “Tigre” is the newest member, having joined the band about a year ago.

4. What is each band member’s favorite band?

Our influences are diverse. Here are some of the bands that shaped our musical identity:

Alyson (vocals): Nevermore, Journey, Angra, Judas Priest, Queensrÿche

Diego (guitar/vocals): I listen to everything, from Rock n' Roll to Black Metal

Thiago (bass): Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Pantera, Sepultura

Gilson (drums): Rush, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Most of the lyrics and song structures are created by Diego. For this album, Zodiac, Gilson composed the title track. Our music explores real experiences, human conflicts, emotional struggles, and the constant search for meaning. We are inspired by the darker side of life and by how people overcome challenges. Music is our way of transforming these themes into sound.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our latest show took place in our hometown, Criciúma-SC, at a festival organized by the band itself, which happens about three times a year. The most recent edition was the celebration of our new album Zodiac, held at Ratazana Comedy Club — a night filled with fans, friends, family, and incredible energy. It took place on 11/22/25.

7. Where would you like to perform in the future?

We’d love to tour Europe, North America, and Asia — places where metal culture is strong and deeply rooted. Festivals like Wacken Open Air, Hellfest, Summer Breeze, and Loud Park are dream stages for us.

8. Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with?

It would be amazing to collaborate with musicians who share our intensity, vision, and sonic identity, and who connect with our energy.

9. Is there anyone you wouldn’t want to collaborate with?

We’re open-minded, but we avoid collaborations that don’t align with our identity or that could compromise our message or sound. If it makes sense, is viable, and brings visibility;<
