Interviews: Desert Near The End

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Thrash Metal/Power Metal band, Desert Near The End, from Greece. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out just like that?

Hello! When we started the band, we had a different name up until 2011, but then, during a very difficult time when we were not sure if we would continue with the band, the song "The Desert Near the End" came into being, and we felt it was the best song we had written until then! It empowered and reinvigorated us! We changed our name after the song, and the rest is history, or at least our history! As for its meaning, it symbolises the last thing that stays behind when you are left with nothing to wait for other than the end, and of course, that's hope! Like Pandora's box, if you like.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Because it's what we grew up with! The 90's era of Blind Guardian and Iced Earth ignited inside us the desire to create music and serve under the banner of power thrash metal, although I dislike labeling, it allows us to be as heavy, fast, slow, aggressive, or melodic and as epic as we like!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes! Alex and I met during our last school year back in 1998! We were a group of friends who decided to form a band, but we are the last two who still play music to this day.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

I can answer for myself, and perhaps Alex, because our shared love for Blind Guardian brought us together. And depending on the time, our next favorite bands are Iced Earth and Manowar.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Everything can be an inspiration for a song! From another song of course or a movie, a soundtrack, a book, a conversation with a friend, or just a look at the world, but that will result in a very bleak song.

6. Where was your last gig?

This August on the Island of Crete.

7. Whom would you like to feature with?

I would die to have Hansi Kursch featured in one of the songs

8. Whom not?

I would rather not say!! I don't want to be rude or offensive to anyone, but there are dozens of musicians I can't stand!

9. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Of course! Every time! No, unfortunately, I don't have any tips.. other than it gets easier with time and that a little stage fright is useful! It keeps you alive and hungry

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

Blind Guardian, Iced Earth, Manowar, Candlemass, and Virgin Steele. I believe that covers everything!

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To make a song especially for him.

12. What do you think of your fans?

I'm grateful to everyone who spends time with our music and makes it part of their life.

13. What do you think of our site?

It's very cool with nice topics, and we are glad to be featured on it.

14. Something to add?

Thank you for the interview, and as we always say: follow the path across the desert!
