Interviews: Pegzilla

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Rock/Doom Metal/Stoner Metal/Sludge Metal band, Pegzilla, from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their INSTAGRAM PROFILE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out like that?

I was thinking about how Kelly Bundy from the TV show "Married With Children" rules, and then I thought, "Well, wait, Peg is cool too," and then my bandmate at the time said, "How about Pegzilla?" I immediately loved it because of the double entendre ;)

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I love playing anything heavy and/or hard. It is just the best release. It feels the most cathartic to me. And it's a good challenge. And I love combining feminist lyrics with a genre that is more male-dominated.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Sure did! I met both Ryan and Juan during my days touring with Egg Drop Soup.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

That's always changing, so we'll focus on the current ones we're listening to:

Juan - Bad Bunny, Iron Maiden

Ryan - Esdeekid, Cymande

Olivia - Broncho, Deafheaven, Hayley Williams

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I am inspired by injustices that infuriate me. Personal and political. When I want to do something about an issue and don't know what to do, when I'm in that mode, I am most eager to write. That and other women's stories.

6. Where was your last gig?

Permanent Records Roadhouse in Los Angeles. Our next one is Thursday, 12/4, at the Goldfish.

7. Where would you like to play?

Europe!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

I'd like to play with more female-fronted bands.

9. Whom not?

Fascists

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I still get it sometimes. That's why I like to think of the audience and how I could potentially inspire them rather than thinking of myself.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Any band that makes me feel something, I'll just obsess over. Anything raw and unfiltered. PJ Harvey and Hole have always been a big influence on me for that reason. Black Sabbath, QOTSA. Ryan, our drummer, says the key is the 3 F's - Feel, Fuck, or Fight. Any band/artist that makes you do/want to do any or all of those three things.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Considering our name, you can probably guess...

13. What do you think of your fans?

We love the shit out of those weirdos.

14. What do you think of our site?

I love it - so many bands to discover on there! Thanks for getting the word out.

15. Something to add?

We're dropping a limited edition vinyl 7" on 12/4, along with the release of our new single "Bootlicker" (on all platforms). Turn it up to 11! cheers \m/
