Interviews: Premier Jester

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band, Prime Jester, from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? You planned it, or did it just come out like that?

JIMMY: So there was a fair bit of thought which went into the name, to be honest! We wanted it to do ‘what it says on the tin’, you know? So Jester was the first word because clown/humour etc kind of described the vibe of the band… then it was like “let’s find something cool which rhymes with it”, and by total fluke I happened to be in the pub when the football was on, and I saw “Premier League”, and it just clicked haha.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

JOEY: We wanted to play the genre because it is undeniably the most lit, energetic and most uplifting genre of metal there is. We all love metal and EDM/Techno, so to fuse them together just makes sense! and goes HARD!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

JIMMY: No, none of us knew one another; we’re basically a Tinder band who met through an online musician finder! It’s crazy to think how close we all are, considering we all only met within the last 18 months…

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Ok, answering this systematically…

Joey – Electric Callboy & Sub Focus

Jimmy – Limp Bizkit

Jonah – Fit For An Autopsy

Adam – Blink 182

Chris – I can’t choose just one!

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

JIMMY: The cool thing with PJ is that it can literally be ANYTHING, and the more off-the-wall the better! For example, one Sunday morning, Adam literally texted me saying, “let’s write a song about PBJ sandwiches and try and work it around our name”, as he was having breakfast lol… then PJ Lovers was created. Joe has a pet seagull… this has inspired another song due to come out soon… It’s all just what’s fun and what pops into our minds! The types of synths in the songs can often dictate the lyrics and theme of the song as well, though.

6. Where was your last gig?

Well, technically it was in a rehearsal room, and we played to 0 people because we haven’t played a gig yet, but I can tell you our first gig is on January 10 at the Blackheart in Camden. Be there.

7. Where would you like to play?

JIMMY: I mean, we’re JUST starting out with our first (headline) show booked for January next year… this is at The Black Heart in Camden, which is awesome because so many big bands started there, so I guess working up the ladder from there to the most iconic places… The Underworld, The Garage, Electric Ballroom, The Dome, The Assembly… but then dreaming of getting into the big festivals and arenas one day!! Who knows, maybe one day we’ll be playing Download or Rock AM! Those would be the biggest dreams come true.

8. Who would you like to support?

JOEY: Oh man, to support Electric Cool Boy would be fucking the absolute dream, obviously, it would be nice if they were supporting us one day, but I mean, I don’t think that’s very realistic, haha

9. Who not?

JIMMY: There’s nobody we wouldn’t want to support because no matter who it is, we know we’ll make people dance and laugh at any show in any genre… sign us up next to Cannibal Corpse or Taylor Swift… our music and vibe will steal the hearts of the crowds at either show! Haha :D

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

JOEY: So we haven’t actually played our first gig yet, so I couldn’t tell you about stage fright; however, as the lead vocalist, even though I’ve known the boys for such a long time, and we all vibe together, I still get nervous every time I have to warm up before rehearsal. Singing in front of anyone when you haven’t warmed up is nerve-racking because you know that you don’t sound that good so yeah, that’s, I guess, my only stage fright.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

JIMMY: omg wow we all have such different tastes and styles! The obvious influences are the guys killing the EU electronicore scene – EC, SPC, WBTWB… but we have a lot of influences outside of metal like 3oh!3, Eminem, Avicii… even Scooter haha!! I guess that’s why we have such a variation of sounds in our style.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

JOEY: So I wouldn’t say there’s anything particularly weird that a fan has asked us for, although something that a fan has said that they’re gonna do, which is f****** li,t is that one of them is gonna be travelling all the way from Poland to come and see our first ever live show! - shout out Slaski drummer!

13. What do you think of your fans?

JIMMY: Our fans, our f****** amazing!!! We’ve had fan mail from across the globe, hilarious comments, a ton of merch sales, reactions and even cover videos! I’d say that our fans are just as intense and wild as we are, and they are the reason we do this. So thank you to all of you, and we cannot wait to finally party with you in person in January!!!!

14. What do you think of our site?

JOEY: Yeah, it’s wicked, and now we get to be on it, which is even more lit!! Maybe you need to be more careful picking bands in future, so people like us don’t slip through the cracks again hahahaha

15. Something to add?

JIMMY: Come join us at our headline show in January and join the team from day one, baby!!! JUST GIVE US A TASTE!!!
