Interviews: Star Crystal

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Glam Metal/Heavy Metal band, Star Crystal, from Ukraine. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out just like that?

We thought about naming ourselves just “Crystal” (after a very expensive champagne), but we figured we needed something with rock soul in it. So we slapped on “Star,” referring to a rock star—and that’s how Star Crystal was born.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

The band’s main idea is to bring back the music of the ’80s. When we were kids, we lived and breathed glam and heavy metal—dreaming of playing imaginary instruments or singing in front of screaming crowds.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

No, in my youth, I met Alex, our guitarist, when we were teenagers. We actually played together in a metal band first. But both of us loved the music that played in the movies at that time, which was glam from the '80s. We started out just the two of us, jamming as a duo for a while, testing the waters. Then, that chemistry and the music just felt so right, we knew we had to build it into a full band. And that's how Star Crystal truly began

4. Each band member's favourite band?

We love similar bands from the era of the '80s: Mötley Crüe, Whitesnake, Mr. Big, Winger, Vixen, Jon Bon, and so on. Glam/Heavy metal is the most appealing for us, also soundtracks from movies, especially from the 80s.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The movies from that era also inspired us, with their killer soundtracks full of roaring guitars and epic synth sounds—especially action flicks. Kenny Loggins was everywhere back then, with iconic tracks like ‘Danger Zone’ from Top Gun, ‘Meet Me Half Way’ from Over the Top, and ‘I’m Free’ from Footloose. Then there’s Don Dokken’s ‘Dream Warriors’ from A Nightmare on Elm Street… and so many more.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was in Vienna, Austria, at a place called Szene—which translates as “Scene”! 😊 We played there on November 22, 2025. It was an incredible night full of energy, color, and that special glam spark we love to bring wherever we go. Soon we will make a video of that concert.

7. Where would you like to act?

The first place that popped out in my mind is any metal cruise—where there are a lot of fans and great bands from our favorite era! Just imagining it gives me chills: endless ocean, nonstop glam riffs, and a crowd that lives for this music like we do.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

If we were to choose one band, I think we would choose Whitesnake. We would like to create and then perform with an '80s legend like David Coverdale on the same stage and play a song "Still of the Night" with him is a dream we are working towards, and we will fulfill it soon.

9. Whom not?

We don’t hate any artist—they do what they do, and people love them, so that’s their way. Music is big enough for everyone, and we respect that. We might not share the same style or vision, but we’ve never believed in shutting anyone out

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes, we felt it a lot at the beginning. Now it’s much easier, but it still happens sometimes—especially before big shows or when we’re playing new songs. But over the years, we’ve learned that stage fright isn’t your enemy; it’s just your body saying, “This matters.”

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

From the music perspective, I’ve already told you—but from live concerts, I think it’s Whitesnake and their Live at the Hammersmith Apollo, London, UK. It’s a wonderful live concert, and it’s our etalon for how a show should look and feel. You should all check it out.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

I don’t remember anything truly weird. Maybe once a fan asked us to sign his back—but honestly, that’s not very weird, it’s totally okay! We’ve signed jackets, posters, setlists, and even a guitar pick taped to someone’s arm. For us, it’s all part of the joy of connecting with fans. If someone’s excited enough to offer their back as a canvas, we’re honored—not surprised.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are great and funny! We love it when they tell us their stories—how our music exists in their lives, how a song got them through a hard day.

14. What do you think of our site?

I like that you post there very often and promote cool bands—real ones with heart, not just noise. It’s clear you care about the music, not just clicks. And honestly? We noticed the little details too—like the design of the mouse pointer on your website!

15. Something to add?

To everyone reading this: keep your glam spirit alive, no matter where you are or what you’re going through. Put on your favorite riff, stand on your kitchen chair if you have to, and never forget that music can be your light, your armor, and your joy. The world needs your sparkle now more than ever.
