Interviews: Starscourge

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal/Black Metal band, Starscourge. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out just like that?

We were planning on something connected to the Elden Ring concept back in 2022, and this was the name that stuck

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We’ve both been involved in various metal bands. When Zul and I first began discussing this project, he was playing death metal with Oshiego, and I was playing Punk with Nedtur. We both wanted something with melodic inclinations and an epic, cinematic atmosphere.

Zul – When I started writing for Starscourge, there were no specific directions in terms of genres. I just followed where each riff or melody led me. And we arrived at what you’re hearing now.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

For years, actually! We usually meet for coffee during Mithun’s visits to Singapore.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Mithun - Judas Priest, Dir En Grey, My Dying Bride

Zul – There are too many and from various genres. The following are bands that I feel are most relevant: Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Mercyful Fate, King Diamond and In Flames.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Fiction, non-fiction, reality.

6. Where was your last gig?

Starscourge has yet to play live, though we would gladly do so if the opportunity arises.

7. Where would you like to act?

Everywhere!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We are quite flexible there! Death, Black, Classic - as long as it’s a good fit!

9. Whom not?

Bands with a poor attitude that are difficult to cooperate with.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that? Perhaps in our younger teenage years?

Been a while. The best way to mitigate it would be to get in the heat of the moment and focus on putting on the best possible live performance.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

For Starscourge, it’s a plethora of influences. Sacrilege, Amon Amarth, Behemoth, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing out of the ordinary

13. What do you think of your fans?

Those that we’re aware of have been very supportive!

14. What do you think of our site?

Great and informative!

15. Something to add?

Play what you want to play, and don’t be bound by genres. We certainly aren’t!
