Interviews: V/K Project
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal band, V/K Project, from Greece. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out like that?
First of all, I would like to thank you for giving me this opportunity to talk about this new band, V/K
Project.
The name of the original studio project, Vass/Katsionis, is, of course, the two last names of the
masterminds behind this collaboration/musical journey.
VK Project is the name of the band that will be playing the material live, from the two albums, Ethical
Dilemma and Cynical Silence, that Bob Katsionis and I released through Symmetric Records.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
The progressive Metal genre was introduced to me at a very young age. Back in the '70s, I was
exposed to bands like Rush, Asia, and yes. So I was attracted to these odd time signatures and the "out
of the ordinary", "out of the box thinking" that these musicians had, approaching their songwriting, so I
was always mesmerized by the progressive metal genre.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
I formed this live band with musicians that I've played with before, in other projects, and I really do
believe that I put together a great team of players, who, of course, are able to play this material live.
This very difficult material will be "brought to life" by Kostas, Mike, Marios, & Manos. Each one of
them brings their
"A game" every time. I truly appreciate that from these guys.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
I can say that the members of this band have covered just about every musical genre there is. I mean, we have people in this band that listen to classic rock all the way to nu metal and extreme stuff, I
mean, black metal and thrash. Everything that heavy metal has to offer, these band members listen
to!!! It's great!!!
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
For me, inspiration comes from just about everything in everyday life. If you read very carefully the
lyrics to the two albums that we have released, you can definitely see anything from everyday life
experiences, to inner exploration or even transcendence. The Listener will definitely be able to relate
to just about every song on these two albums.
6. Where would you like to act?
This band is ready to perform just about anywhere at any venue, big or small. We don't mind, we just
want to get our music out there.
7. Whom would you like to feature with?
I believe the band plays the kind of material that would be ideal to open up for bands like
Queensryche, Fates Warning, and Dream Theater.
8. What bands have inspired you the most?
I grew up in the '70s, so of course, my influences are anything that the '70s came out with that had to
do with rock and roll. I could go on naming a whole bunch of bands, but I'll be missing out on a whole
bunch more that I will have forgotten!!!!!
My main inspiration, of course, is anything that came out in the seventies. But if I had to pick
my most inspirational bands while I was growing up and getting into rock music, they would have to
be
Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, The Doors, Kiss, The Eagles, Scorpions, and Thin Lizzy.
9. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Well, fans are one of the main reasons why we do what we do. We want to put music out there and
play live shows in order to please these people who love this music that we create and perform, and
that's what a fan is. So the fans are the most important aspect to a band.
