Band Biographies: Shade

SHADE is a rock band from Tunis, blending elements of stoner, metal, and alternative rock. Formed in 2005, the band quickly established itself as a distinct voice in the Tunisian underground scene before going on hiatus in 2009. In 2023, SHADE was reborn with its original lineup, driven by the same creative tension and a renewed focus on atmosphere, weight, and narrative songwriting.

Rooted in crushing riffs, hypnotic repetition, and slow-burning dynamics, SHADE favors tension and immersion over immediacy. The band’s sound balances precision and drift, with carefully structured compositions that remain unstable and unpredictable. Storytelling plays a central role, with songs unfolding like scenes rather than traditional rock structures.

In 2025, SHADE released their debut EP, Under Distant Suns, a narrative-driven record exploring collapse, exile, and quiet transformation. Conceived as a continuous journey, the EP established the band’s identity through immersive structures and a strong sense of atmosphere.

Later in 2026, SHADE followed up with THE EXPLOITATION TAPES, an anthology-style EP inspired by 1970s exploitation and B-movie cinema. Each track functions as a standalone piece, drawing from different genres such as science fiction and retro horror, while maintaining a unified, obsessive tone.

On stage, SHADE focuses on dense and immersive performances centered on volume, groove, and sustained tension, emphasizing atmosphere and physical impact over spectacle.
