Behind The Artworks: Grim Discipline - Pennsylvanian Thirst (2025)

The cover is a picture of a road I travel pretty frequently. It is in this hollow(colloquially called a holler) near my house, and I am often struck by the views. The location is right by where a grisly occult based murder, known as the rehmeyer murder, occured in the 1920s.

The angle of the road lends presence to these trees. They are big and foreboding. There is an ancient darkness in this particular area that spoke to me.

I wanted to contribute to the black metal aesthetic that often utilizes nature in photography. There's a lot of people in the woods in black metal and where I am has plenty of forest with some gnarly history.

After I took the picture, that is when the title came to me. Though it's been seen as tongue in cheek metal is a very "call and response" culture and so the title is my contribution to that practice. it's also a sort of "reppin' my home" thing as well. There's a lot of great metal in Pennsylvania and we are all quite thirsty to make our mark.
