Behind The Tracks: Bastion Rose - Dust (Single) (2026)

"Dust" is the first single from our upcoming album, Blue Rising. Much like our EP, Fade To Blue, and our first album, Traces Of Gold, "Dust" deals with the idea of the inevitable fading of all things. Austin Mudd and I wrote the guitar parts together years ago, and the song has followed us for a good portion of our lives. In fact, Blue Rising was the name of the band before we became Bastion Rose, and this was one of the songs we started to develop during that time. During the bridge right before the guitar solo, the lyrics say...

 

I'm caught up on another wave

Ship capsized, and who am I

You know you've got to test your wings

Isolate from everything

Oh my god there's a hole in me

Turn to one another to set us free

All in time turns back to dust

Wake up...smell the roses.

 

These lyrics, especially those last two lines, effectively summarize the song, and the meaning of the Bastion Rose itself.
