Interviews: Before The Sirens
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band, Before The Sirens, from England. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? You planned it or came out like that?
Funny story! We originally came up with the name Before The Storm and launched our social media
pages, only for an established UK-based rock band of the same name to contact us, asking us (quite
rightly) to change our name. We obliged, but realised that all our branding was centred around the letters
B, T, & S. So, over the course of the next few days we threw all sorts of variants around (Before The
Sausage was a personal favourite) before settling on Before The Sirens, as we felt it illustrated the dark,
bleak and aggressive tones of the music we were writing.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Our music stems from our influences in early 2000s metalcore (Killswitch Engage, amongst others) and
those ‘Kerrang’ era Nu-Metal bands that formed our sound. We list ourselves as ‘for fans of Killswitch
Engage, Alter Bridge, Breaking Benjamin & Metallica’.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
We have been playing together in bands since we were teenagers. Adam, Chris and I have been friends since school, so we have
been friends for nearly 30 years. We were introduced to Alex by a mutual friend nearly 20 years ago.
Before The Sirens formed in 201,9, and Alex joined in 2021.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Alun: Metallica
Chris: Breaking Benjamin
Adam: Killswitch Engage
Alex: Amon Amarth
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Musically, we tend to write our best when we are inspired by personal events or societal happenings. This is usually coupled with someone bringing in an idea to rehearsal that we jam out to make a song. We can
find inspiration in a lot of different ways. That’s half the fun!
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was at The Hat Factory in Luton. We’re back there on February 21st
with our good friends Of
Concrete Gods.
7. Where would you like to perform?
Download would be fun. We often fall into a grey area for genres. We’re not heavy enough for some
metalheads but far too heavy for a pop environment, so Download has rock and metal acts in the same
arena, and that would lean perfectly towards our blend of metal, metalcore and hard rock.
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
It would be awesome to be able to share the stage with some of our favourite bands one day. Hopefully, when they are in the UK in the future, we can throw our hat in the ring.
9. Whom not?
Nobody of note. We will share the stage with anyone, anywhere, anytime. As long as everyone is cool and
there for a good time, we’ll all get on just fine.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
I used to when I was younger, but now it’s like nervous energy. That’s all it is, really. Once you realise tha,t
you’ll be just fine. Just enjoy the ride!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
So many. I’ll just throw a few into the ring that I haven’t mentioned yet. The Ghost Inside, Parkway
Drive, Tremonti, Alter Bridge, Malevolence, Periphery, Sylosis. The list is pretty vast!
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We get asked for guitar picks, setlists and merch bits all the time. I don’t recall ever being asked for
anything weird, though. Sweaty hugs are often available after shows, though!
13. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans are awesome. We’re all just there to have a good time and create some good energy. They are
integral to all of that.
14. What do you think of our site?
Your site is really important for bands like ours and the industry in general. Fans of metal music can jump
on and check out a range of new bands and artists they may not have heard of before, and maybe discover
their new favourite band.
15. Something to add?
Thank you for featuring us, and hopefully you guys can check out our new EP ‘As It Is Above, So It Is
Below’ available on all streaming platforms now!!!
