Interviews: Korbo
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal/Progressive Metal/Progressive Rock/Hard Rock band Korbo from France. Check out the interview and follow this band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Was it planned, or did it just happen organically?
The band name was an idea back when I wanted to do a music project with a high school friend. We would both come up with names. I came up with the name "Korbo", but it wasn't selected at the time; we chose another name. So I kept it and used it for my Prog Metal band, and I think it fits perfectly for this kind of music :) "Corbeau" means crow in French, which is a truly fascinating animal with a whole folklore surrounding it that blends very well with our music. It's the songbird, the bird of bad omen, the bird that appears frequently in literature; fables, tales, poems... I simply customized the spelling to give the word an identity specific to the group, and so that the pronunciation would be more direct and clear.
2. Why did you choose to play this genre?
We didn't really choose; it kind of imposed itself. We like metal, we like progressive rock. Therefore, we like progressive metal. So it made sense that we would play this style of music!
3. Did you know each other before forming the band?
Léa and I had known each other before forming the band, but Gabriel and Tim were new to us when they joined.
4. What is each band member's favorite band?
Léa: Black Sabbath
Tim: Porcupine Tree
Gabriel: Joan Sebastian Bach
Aaron: Black Sabbath
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
To be perfectly honest, boredom! I came from a place where there was nothing to do. It was a really dead town. So music was a way to have a purpose in my teenage years! To escape, in a way. But of course, there were a few guys that I met that introduced me to metal, even music as a whole, and even inspired me to be a better person. They don't know, but I kind of owe them my life !
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was November 9, 2025. It wasn't planned initially; the tour for our debut album was already over. But we got invited by Mü, a really cool band with whom we did a concert during the tour. And this last unplanned show was probably our best show ever, for now, we loved it so much!
7. Where would you like to perform in the future?
We would love to do Festivals !!! This is the next step for the band: doing festivals.
8. Which artist or band would you like to collaborate with?
We often joke that Steven Wilson will one day produce one of our albums! It's unlikely, but we'd love it! Beyond the fact that we're huge fans, I admire his approach as a producer. I get the feeling that this man has a healthy ego, and goodness knows that's not always easy in this business!
9. Is there anyone you wouldn’t want to collaborate with?
There is nothing that comes to my mind right now. I don't really know.
10. Have any of you ever experienced stage fright? Do you have any tips for beginners on overcoming it?
I learned that on our last tour, I'm not someone who gets too stressed out. At least not yet! I know that doing my vocal warmup helps me to relax before a show. Léa also does a guitar doodle to warm up because her hands are always so cold !
11. Which bands have influenced you the most?
I would say Metallica and Black Sabbath. Just by the fact that these two bands made us dive headfirst into metal music. At least for Léa and me.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
One day, we were contacted by email by someone who wanted autographed photos of us. Some friends of ours, who are also in a band, told us they had received the same request some time ago and agreed to send it. Days later, this fan sent them back very disturbing photos with the autographs. So we refrained from replying to those kinds of emails...
13. What do you think of your fans?
We don't have a lot of fans right now, we are still a young band, but to those who are already supporting us: thanks a lot, we always try to give you the best we can! I hope we would love the upcoming album!
14. What do you think of our site?
A lot of metal sites are not really readable. But on the breathing, the core site everything is really presented in a clear way! + It's pretty cool to put Bandcamp links for the releases to support artists! And I love the Mano Cornuta as our mouse cursor, every metal site should have it :)
15. Is there anything else you’d like to add?
Thanks a lot for reading. If you like Prog Metal, feel free to check out our upcoming album "Amnésiste," which will be released next March 13, and our new Single "Sans Maintenant" and its music video. 'See you around! :)
