Interviews: Sick Sad World

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Post-Metal band, Sick Sad World, from France. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come like that?

The band’s name comes from the TV series Daria. It was the name of a fake news program within the show. But what really makes it work with our music is what the name represents.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It’s the music that speaks to us and moves us, quite simply. Even though each member listens to different things, that’s what happens when we play together.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

The singer and drummer have known each other since adolescence. The two guitarists met during their studies. But it was the band that really strengthened their bond.

4. Each band member’s favourite band?

Isis, Pink Floyd, Cult of Luna, Russian Circles, Deftones.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

For this album, it was primarily the exploration of emotions, which gradually led to the theme of grief.

6. Where was your last gig?

It was in our city, Nantes.

7. Where would you like to play?

There are many places we’d love to play. Hellfest, of course, as a French band (and being close to the festival). But also specialized festivals like Roadburn or ArcTanGent.

8. Who would you like to collaborate with?

There are tons of artists and bands. Let’s say AmenRa, Mono, Envy, Deftones, Cult of Luna, AA Williams, Chelsea Wolfe… And even in other musical styles, there are many possibilities.

9. Who wouldn’t you collaborate with?

No one in particular musically—everything can be interesting to discover. It’s more about values, ideas, or behavior: we’d avoid collaborating with problematic artists.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to overcome it?

Yes, of course—there’s always some stage fright before a concert. For some, it’s stronger than for others. The advice is simple: just go for it. Once you step onto the stage, you enter a bubble, and the stage fright disappears.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Cult of Luna, AmenRa, Envy, Deftones, The Ocean, Mono, Agalloch, Russian Circles…

12. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To play at their home.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They have excellent taste. More seriously, they’re curious because it’s not easy to discover a band like ours.

14. What do you think of our site?

We’re discovering it now. There’s a lot to explore.

15. Something to add?

If you like intense music, listen to the album—that’s the main thing.
