Behind The Scenes: Toranaga - Crash And Burn (Official Video)

We decided to do a video with the band featured in it rather than a lyric video. We also thought maybe we could do it ourselves, as our bass player Richard has a good camera and some experience from doing a video with a band he used to be in.

We also used our rehearsal room, as it is a reasonable size to do it in. The plan was to turn the lights off in the room and use a few standalone lamps at the sides of the room. The lights in the room were on a motion sensor, so we looked at turning them off, but we couldn't find a switch on it. This was a problem as we wanted the room to be dark without too much light. We then rang the rehearsal room owner, who came to have a look, but he couldn't find a switch either. He decided to turn the lights off at the circuit board. By this time, an hour had passed eaten into our time schedule.

Now the lighting was better, and we were ready. Each band member was videoed seperately going through the song a few times,  playing through the track. Then a play through with Drums and, guitars, and bass. Lastly, the vocals. We had the backdrop behind us with the band logo on, and it was taped to the wall. The vocal play through started, and within a minute, the backdrop started to peel away from the wall. Everything stopped as we re-taped it. We started again, and the backdrop started to peel away again! This stop-and-start happened for at least another five occasions, and time was running out for the time slot we had booked. We eventually got some vocal takes, and what we had would have to do.

We got the effect we wanted with the lighting and put the video in black and white. Richard edited it at home, and we think he did a great job under the circumstances. The loss of time did put a bit of pressure and stress on us, but we're quite happy with our DIY Video!
