Interviews About Albums: Sons Of Butcher - Skids (2026)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Canadian Rock band Sons Of Butcher to ask questions about their album "Skids"

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

This is our first EP of new material since re-forming as a band in 2021! We enlisted our favourite drummer, Kellii Scott from the band Failure, to drum on the recordings, and he helped ratchet up the intensity! It's sort of a rebirth for Sons of Butcher in many ways. We are kind of trying to reach beyond the cartoon walls of our former television show at this point in our careers, and really focusing on these characters 20 years later in a live setting!

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

To give a little background, when we were growing up in Steeltown, we would always call the grungy, broke-ass stoners the "skids". It's sort of a way of life here, lots of people living the Skid lifestyle. In terms of the EP's title, Skids encapsulates the low-brow lifestyle of Ricky Butcher and Doug Borski- two rockers beyond their prime, mounting a comeback with their band 'Sons of Butcher'. It's a nod to our time spent slogging it out in the gutters of Steeltown (aka Hamilton, Ontario).

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

Ricky Butcher wrote all the songs on this EP!

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

"Denim Dreamin'" because this is the first Sons of Butcher song that is truly radio-friendly! No swear words, no raunchy sexual innuendos. This is the rarest of songs ever from a band like us!

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is, what is it?

The message is to live life like a skid sometimes! Do what feels good to you, and go wherever the weed smoke takes you! The world is a seriously scary place, and our brand of music hopefully allows you to mute it all for a moment and just laugh at some absurd things, while banging your head to some undeniable ROCK!

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

From "Makin' Bacon": ..."'I'm eating bacon everyday, it helps to clog the pain away."

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

We'd like to thank the fans for this EP! When we re-formed and played that first show back on stage, so many fans showed up and sang along and chanted with excitement! We felt like maybe it was time to make a new release of brand new songs for these loyal fans! We started writing and recording this EP after that show, and even used a photo of us from that very night as the cover art!

8. Something to add?

We're always adding new stuff over at our merch store at sonsofbutcher.bandcamp.com/merch! From toques to hoodies and vinyl to CD. There's something out there for every proud Skid!
