Interviews: The Velvet Room

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Indie Rock band The Velvet Room from Scotland. Check it out!.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come out like that?

The band name was a painstaking process lol. We couldn't think of anything for the longest time. Then it came from the mash-up of two that we liked. When we settled on the velvet room. We loved the idea of this mysterious velvet room. It could be whatever you want it to be; that depends on your imagination.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Indie rock is my bread and butter. I was brought up listening to classic British bands. The Who, The Kinks, OCS, Oasis, Verve, The Jam, The Beatles, Stone Roses, and many more.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We didn't know each other; we had been assembled by whatever fate had in store for us. Put together as and when the situation called for it.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

James - The Beatles.
Jake - Radiohead.
Scott - Bon Iver.
Callum - Fontaines DC .

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Life and emotions.

6. Where was your last gig?

Dundee - This was our first gig out of our hometown, Aberdeen. What a night it was.

7. Where would you like to act?

The bright lights of Barrowlands is a personal goal of mine - James Massie

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Would love to have James Ford (Producer) on a project or Owen Morris.

9. Whom not?

Ed Sheeran

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Yeah, it's a long story. This velvet room is only my 2nd ever band, and I only performed live for the first time 4 years ago. I'm now 39. So, trying to make up for lost time. As for advice. Don't fight the feelings. Sit with them. Let them wash over you. The more you fight them, the worse they are. Also, don't suffer in silence. Let your bandmates know you are feeling nervous or your partner, etc.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Bands that really inspire me are the ones that are still making music today at the grassroots level. It's for no other reason but the love of it. As we all know, it's not for the money. They are the real heroes.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing crazy. There is still time.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Love them - I am a massive fan of loads of bands, and to think people might feel that way about our band is amazing.

14. What do you think of our site?

Site is classy - professional and something for everyone.

15. Something to add?

Keep doing what you are doing and thanks for the interview.
