Behind The Tracks: Kyoshi Station - Song Unsung (Single) (2026)
Song Unsung from Kyoshi Station started its life quite by accident. During a jam, David played the arpeggio from Pink Floyd's Shine On You Crazy Diamond incorrectly. Instead of stopping, he kept repeating the mistake until the idea took hold and a melody was built around it.
The voice in French near the start of the song is from a 1960's interview with Serge Gainsbourg. In the interview, he talks about how becoming too comfortable can limit your potential. Risks need to be taken, and you need to feel on edge and almost afraid to be able to create your best work. Gainsbourg is a problematic historical figure at this point, but even so, the idea remains valid. This is where the theme of the song came from, with the main chorus refrain as the anchor, with everything flowing from there.
As is Kyoshi tradition, the song builds to an epic ending. Tension is built after another Floyd-like guitar section before finally being released in a blistering solo with all musicians turning things up to 10.
We consider this one of our best achievements and a highlight of the whole Kyoshi Station project so far.
