Band Biographies: Buy Jupiter
BUY JUPITER delivers a dense and immersive take on extreme progressive metal, built
around one of the most ambitious conceptual frameworks in the French metal scene.
Founded in 2013 and inspired by Isaac Asimov's short story of the same name, the band
has spent over a decade developing a fully realized science-fiction universe through their
music — an epic that began with workers exploiting Jupiter and ends, with their upcoming
album EARTH, on the home planet itself.
Their Jovian trilogy — Departure (2016), Crossworlds (2017), and Eclipse (2019) — charted
the fate of a crew exiled beyond space, combining progressive complexity with extreme
metal weight in a way that rewards both casual listeners and deep fans of the genre. The
music is varied and intentionally cinematic, each record a chapter rather than a standalone
statement.
Their sound draws from a well-chosen set of reference points — the polyrhythmic density of
Meshuggah, the groove-driven heaviness of Lamb of God, the progressive intricacy of
Textures and Opeth, the narrative and structural ambition of Between The Buried And Me,
and the modern extreme edge of After The Burial — while assembling these influences into
something with its own internal logic and conceptual purpose.
EARTH (May 15, 2026) represents the culmination of this arc: the Jovian exiles return to
Earth, and with them comes a new conflict over the future of humanity — domination or
liberation. In a distinctive move, each track on the album is accompanied by an original short
story, published on the band's website, offering an independent narrative lens on the events
described in the lyrics. The result is a multimedia project that extends well beyond the record
itself, offering listeners an entry point into a fully rendered fictional world.
The band's live presence has developed in parallel with their recorded output. Over 13
years, BUY JUPITER has performed at Sylak Open Air (2017 and 2023), the festival Les
Lunatiques (2018), Lions Metal Fest (2019), WinteRock Fest (2020 and 2026), and the
Hellfest Warm Up (2022) — one of the most prestigious pre-festival showcases in France.
They have shared stages with Between The Buried And Me, Protest The Hero, Benighted,
Smash Hit Combo, Atlantis Chronicles, Gorod, and others, building a reputation for tight,
immersive live sets that match the ambition of their recordings.
With EARTH now set for a May 2026 release and the band actively expanding its live
footprint, BUY JUPITER enters a new phase — one defined by the convergence of a
completed narrative arc and a decade of performance experience. They represent the kind
of long-game, concept-driven extreme metal project that rewards sustained attention and is
built to endure.
