Behind The Artworks: Soothsayer - The Unbinding (2026)
The cover art for The Unbinding was created by our drummer, Ger O'Callaghan. In the past, I had done all of the artwork but found myself struggling to get to a place of contentment with the piece I was working on for the album. Ger had created a painting where the themes matched up perfectly, it was quite uncanny. We had both independently created a painting of a character wading through water, moving away from land.
Once I saw Ger's painting, I was blown away at how accurately it portrayed what I was trying to express. The Unbinding is loosely tells a story of one who is turning away from society, unbinding themselves from the shackles and weights of the system and yearning for a deeper calling in life. The artwork displays the hooded figure, walking into uncertainty while clutching on to a single flame from a candle as the sun sets in the background. They are turning away from warmth and familiarity and setting forth into the cold, dark unknown. And really, isn't this what most of us do every day?
