Behind The Scenes: Insania.11 - Ignite (Official Video)

IGNITE is the seventh chapter of INSANIA.11's new full-length album, IL MONDO ALDILA' (The World Beyond), is a concept album that explores the liminal worlds at the edge between life and non-life.

IGNITE depicts a world whose inhabitants are devout sun worshippers, yet their devotion is tinged with presumption, so much so that they claim to master the sun's energy and replicate it with their science. Unlike Icarus, who met his death after flying too close to the sun, the inhabitants of this world brought the sun to their planet, irremediably setting it ablaze in a thermonuclear catastrophe that darkened the atmosphere with smoke and suspended ash. Now they live in eternal darkness, and to illuminate this darkness, they light ritual bonfires in which they offer their bodies as fuel.

The analogies with the cult of the Sun transfigured in Christianity, represented by the sacred fuel of the ritual (the baptism in fire that immediately connects with divinity), are mixed here with a critique of the current hydrocarbon age, understood as an expression of the desynchronization of the human race with the macroorganism that is Gaia. But if the "hydrocarbon cult" is emblematic of the predation and psychotic consumption of natural resources, the concept of "reviving the Sun in a Pit" is linked to the presumption of replicating the divine energy of the Sun "in vitro."

This is not an anti-nuclear political issue, but an existential and methodological one: attempting to resolve the hydrocarbon crisis by turning to the supposedly clean energy of nuclear power is not a change of course but rather a ride on a technological steed that will make us travel this path at breakneck speed. As the saying goes, only fools pretend to achieve a different result by continuing to act in the same way.

The transposition of the text into images, achieved through video, reveals a further interpretation: a dichotomy is represented between the "ritual" in which the various male characters participate, and the female point of view, which seems to have the role of witness to the logical and existential defeat of a system destined to destroy the ecosystem, to which the sense of belonging has been lost in favor of the presumption of being able to exercise dominion.

The underlying reference is to the distinction between a prehistoric human era, based on a matriarchal tribalism, governed by egalitarian sharing and fusion with the macro-organism that is planet Earth, and a historical era, the one we live in, based on the predation of the environment and of one's fellow humans, who are no longer perceived as such but defined in terms of power relations.

But the social relationships of this world are different, and its inhabitants, seemingly divided into castes:

- the working class (the bearers of the jerry cans and the sedan chair)
- the ruling class (the obese)
- the priestly class (the children who officiate the ritual)

all contribute equally to confirming a shared, insane vision of existence. In this sense, in IGNITE, the circle closes and we return to a prehistoric and mythical time.

Since the track is sung in Italian, the band provides a non-literal translation into English:

SUN WORSHIPPERS UNDER A PALL OF BLACK CLOUDS
WE WALK IN AN ETERNAL NIGHT
THE WORLD BURNS
THE FIRE OF OUR DEVOTION, THE PITCH INCENSE OFFERED HAVE DARKENED THE SKY
THE AIR IS BLACK, THE WATERS ARE BLACK, OUR SOULS ARE BLACK
AND OUR WORLD IS A DESERT OF SHARP ROCKS AND ARID LANDS AND SOFT HAZE
THE WORLD BURNS
PROCESSIONS OF EMACIATED SHADOWS DRAG GASOLINE IN CANS
ON SEDDERS THE OBESE PEOPLE ARE CARRIED TO THE TEMPLE OF SACRIFICE
THE FIRE CALLS
THE BEARERS OFFER THEIR BONES TO THE FLAMES, THE OBESE PEOPLE THEIR LARD: THE IGNITION
THE CORPSES ALREADY FILLING THE PIT, THE LIVING OFFER THEMSELVES TO THE BLADE
THE SUN WILL SHINE AGAIN IN A PIT
CHILD PRIESTS CUT THROATS AND LIMBS
THEY POUR GASOLINE ON THE ADULT CORPSES
THEY RUBBED FLINT ON THEIR SHARP TEETH
INNOCENT SPARKS SET THE WORLD ON FIRE
BURN! BLAZE!
BURN AND BLAZE!
