Behind The Tracks: A Permanent Shadow - We’ll Be One (Single) (2026)
“We’ll Be One” is a song about a stalker. It was not intended to be, but over the course of writing the story, it became ever more twisted, and I let the false Lothario end up in prison. The man is ruminating on his life behind bars, wondering what got him there, as in his mind, he was only trying to catch his object of desire’s eye and dreaming from afar about a common future. Or so he thinks. Nonetheless, his optimism is unbroken as in the chorus he affirms that he still believes in “our tomorrow” and that one day “we’ll be one”.
Musically, “We’ll Be One” is sort of a departure from our usual sound, as acoustic guitars prevail as opposed to synthesizers and electric guitars. I thought it would be interesting to do something different this time. On the forthcoming album, there’s another song in the same vein, a cover of David Johansen’s “Heart Of Gold”, which we gave a similar treatment. Other than those two, the album “Half-Century Dead End”, which will be out early next year, will feature our usual blend of instruments and sounds.
For “We’ll Be One” we shot a video at a derelict Barcelona prison center. I’m very pleased with the way it turned out, as it perfectly reflects the mood I was trying to convey when I wrote the song
