Interviews: FireFlame

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal band FireFlame from Japan. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it come out just like that?

It’s actually a funny story. FireRay and Fire. J went to an Izakaya (Japanese pub), and we came up with the name in about 20 seconds before the staff even brought us our wet towels! At first, we decided on "Fire Burst," but later found out another metal band was already using that name. So we adjusted it to "FireFlame" later. It came out completely naturally!

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We have massive respect for traditional Heavy Metal, and we want to be its true, rightful successors. However, we knew that just copying the 80s style wouldn't work today. That's why we decided to play "true" Heavy Metal through a modern musical approach.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Of course! From FireRay's perspective, the band consists of friends from college and childhood friends. We had actually played together in cover band events several times before forming FireFlame.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

FireRay (Gt): Judas Priest

Fire.J (Gt): Racer X

Mr Big Fire (Vo): Bullet For My Valentine

Connie Flames (Ba): Motionless In White

Show .G. Flame (Dr): Avenged Sevenfold

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

For FireRay, songs are often driven by negative emotions like anger, sadness, and hatred. Sometimes I feel these emotions in daily life, and other times I get inspired by movies, paintings, and other forms of art.

6. Where was your last gig?

We played in Kobe for the Japanese tour of a French band called Far Away! Those guys were absolutely killer, and it was an incredibly fun show!

7. Where would you like to act?

We want to play all over the world and hit international festivals! To all the overseas fans and promoters reading this: feel free to slide into our DMs!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

FireRay (Gt): Judas Priest

Fire. J (Gt): Yngwie J. Malmsteen

Mr Big Fire (Vo): Black Veil Brides

Connie Flames (Ba): Five Finger Death Punch

Show .G. Flame (Dr): Avenged Sevenfold

9. Whom not?

Any band with a guitarist who uses a headless guitar (haha). As a guitarist myself, not having a headstock is just beyond my understanding! (by FireRay)

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Our leader, FireRay, looks like he has a perfect poker face, but he actually gets extremely nervous before going on stage. He’s shaking inside, even if it doesn't show on his face! The only tip to beat that is just to practice like crazy until you are fully confident.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

That’s a tough question because we aren’t heavily influenced by just one single band or trying to copy anyone's specific style. However, in terms of aiming to be the true successors of Heavy Metal, it has to be Judas Priest. Because they are the ultimate Metal Gods.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Nothing weird so far! But hey, if you have any strange requests, let us know in advance so we can prepare for them! (haha)

13. What do you think of your fans?

Just like our band concept represents, "FireFlame" is the fire that burns inside the hearts of those who keep on fighting and challenging themselves. We believe that the exact same FireFlame is burning inside our fans' hearts too. There is no wall between the fans and the band—we are ALL FireFlame.

14. What do you think of our site?

Breathing the Core is an absolute powerhouse for the heavy music scene! We truly respect your passion and dedication to supporting heavy music and giving underground bands a platform to be heard globally. Keep killing it!

15. Something to add?

We want everyone to check out our 1st album, which has absolutely everything we’ve got packed into it. Also, we put so much effort and detail into the CD artwork and physical packaging layout, so we really hope you get your hands on a physical copy too! Thank you for your support!
