Interviews: Fires In The Distance

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Death Metal band Fires In The Distance from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it come out just like that?

The name reflects an everlasting search and pursuit of solace.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Coming from years of playing in a melodic death metal band, this was a venture into something new, a musical territory we've never really explored.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Craig and Yegor have been in bands for over 15 years. We met Jordan after the first album, as our original drummer stepped down for personal reasons. Brendan joined earlier this year, though we've known each other through the New England metal scene for a while.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Yegor - Hypocrisy

Craig - Iron Maiden

Brendan - Rush

Jordan - Periphery

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Life, existentialism

6. Where was your last gig?

Legions of Metal Festival, Chicago, May 2026

7. Where would you like to act?

As far as playing live, definitely Finland, the EU in general.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Insomnium definitely comes to mind. Would always love to do another tour with Amorphis and Dark Tranquillity; all of those guys are incredible people.

9. Whom not?

No one comes to mind

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Yegor: Honestly, every time. What helps me the most is to look past the crowd, if that makes sense. Envision you're at a rehearsal, don't focus on the people in front of you, focus on the performance.

Craig: Same as Yegor, I feel it every time for 10-15 minutes before we hit the stage. Once I hit that first note, I usually feel in the zone.

Jordan: During the first few shows for sure, but it soon dissipates after a good warmup and a reminder of all the prep work.

Brendan: I used to suffer from it quite a bit, not so much anymore. Some advice I’d offer is, realize that if you go up there terrified, it’s going to be felt in your playing, and probably seen too. The only way to play your best is to be fearless. Sink deep into the song, be an accessory to it.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

The Gothenburg melodic death metal scene primarily includes bands like Soilwork, In Flames, Dark Tranquillity, Darkane, Scar Symmetry, as far as the melodic death metal aspect. The more melancholy component definitely comes from bands like Enshine, The Man-Eating Tree, Kaunis Kuolematon, Kauan, and Black Sun Aeon

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Craig: To sign a black hoodie with a black Sharpie. Ask me for an autograph when he didn’t know who I was

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our fans have been extremely loyal, loving, and supportive over the years, which is very much mutual.

14. What do you think of our site?

It's a great page, and a pleasure talking with you.

15. Something to add?

Thank you for the questions! Always a privilege and a pleasure. Cheers
