Interviews About Albums: Vulgar Mephitis - From Dust (2026)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Brutal Death Metal band Vulgar Mephitis to ask questions about their album, "From Dust".

1. What can you say about this new album?

From Dust took about 3 years to finish writing, and was recorded in the summer of 2025. It’s a product of four people contributing ideas and bringing them to life through rehearsing regularly. We all believe we ended up with an album that sounds pretty unique to us because of that.

2. What is the meaning of the album name?

Jacob is the one who came up with the name of the album. The name is a reference to the creation story of man in Genesis. While we all have varied beliefs, he tends to pull from biblical imagery and themes for his writing.

3. Which one is the composer of the album?

Technically, there isn’t a single composer for this band. Though I did arrange a lot of riffs and semi-finished sections into complete songs. Each of us contributed riffs and ideas. Some of us even contributed entire songs.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Martyr. It sums up everything that we do into one song.

5. Is there a special message in this album?

While I wouldn't call this album a concept piece, Jacob would say in a broad sense the overarching themes are of personal and communal struggle towards salvation, conquering the passions, and good and evil.

6. Are there some Iyrics that you'd love to share?

I, will not bow down
I, will not submit
To the flesh
I will transcend it
Of my soul
I will surrender

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

While we pull from inspiration in everything around us, I'd truly say this album is us pulling from inside ourselves and translating it sonically, the best we could at the time.
