Interviews: AXTY

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore/Deathcore band AXTY from Brazil. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Planned or spontaneous?

The band was initially called "Anxiety," which made it really hard for anyone trying to look us up, since all the results would be about the pathology. So we changed it to a kind of abbreviation to make the name more unique.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Because we can honestly say we were forged by metal. It is the style we have always listened to, since our teenage years, so it is the language we know best how to speak.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes. We come from the same general scene and have crossed paths over the years through other projects.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

This varies a lot from day to day, but generally speaking, we would say:

Felipe: Dayseeker

Jonathas: I Prevail

Gabriel: Architects

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Generally, we try to extract the feeling from past experiences and convey it in our music, always trying to find unique perspectives that people can somehow relate to.

6. Where was your last gig?

The last show was in Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo, our hometown, to close out the run of shows that started with the tour in the United States, accompanying Lacuna Coil and Escape the Fate.

7. Where would you like to play?

We have been achieving one of our main goals, which is to play across the entire USA. But we still want to play the major festivals, especially in Europe, and other places like Australia, where the scene is very strong.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

There are a lot of people who inspire our work, and it would be incredible to build something with them. We had the opportunity to release a song featuring Taylor Barber a while back, and of course, it would be cool to work with other scene icons like Tom Barber, Sam Carter, etc.

9. Whom not?

We prefer not to name names, but anyone whose values are not aligned with ours. We talk a lot about bad feelings, but our intention is to spread good things, to help people overcome and become better. So, anyone preaching suffering is out of the question.

10. Stage fright? Any tips for beginners?

Some people would give the advice to focus on what you are playing and ignore the audience. But we think the secret is the opposite. Try to connect as much as possible with the audience, especially those in the front row. That ends up giving you the peace of mind to understand that those people are there, no matter what. 

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Many bands, from the classics like Metallica, through the pioneers of modern metal like Periphery and Monuments, followed by Bring Me the Horizon, Architects, Dayseeker, I Prevail, all the way to newer ones like Thrown.

12. Weirdest thing a fan has ever asked for?

Nothing too far beyond the "usual" oddities, like signing unusual objects or sending unusual messages to friends.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We genuinely consider our fans really special, no empty words. Our shows carry an incredible atmosphere of inclusion, and we really feel a sense of community. We recognize many of them, several having been with us since the very beginning, and that is very gratifying. We have a lot to be grateful for to our fans, and they are an immense privilege.

14. What do you think of our site?

Honestly, we found out about it recently, and we think it is an incredible initiative and very important for the scene as a whole. That kind of thing done with the care you have is fundamental.
