Interviews: Death Warmed Up

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock band Death Warmed Up from England. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it just come out like that?

I (Charlie - Guitarist) came up with the band name from an old TV show, One Foot in the Grave. I heard the main character say ‘I Feel Like Death Warmed Up’ in the episode I was watching and thought it’d be a cool band name.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

When we started out as a band, we had a slightly heavier sound as our ex-rhythm guitarist was influenced by much more modern metal, and he was very involved in the writing early on. As we grew as a band, it was clear that the common ground between me (Charlie), Will, Ollie, and Seb sat somewhere between hair metal, NWOBHM, and Classic Rock. This all led to a sound that felt very natural and fitted with all of our musical influences.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Before we formed the band, we had all been part of the Nottingham scene for a while, so we knew of each other and had probably bumped into one another at gigs, etc. Will and Ollie were school friends and had been in bands together since they were very young. Charlie and Will met at college and then went through university together. Will met Seb when he had a brief stint in the Iron Maiden tribute Seb was playing in at the time, and Charlie knew Seb from a music club run by Nottingham Music Hub when they were younger.

4. Each member’s favourite band?

Charlie – Queen

Will – Iron Maiden

Ollie - Aerosmith

Seb – Alter Bridge 

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our songwriting process is generally very vague; usually, songs begin with a guitar riff that will just be something I come up with out of the blue, with little to no inspiration other than the music I listen to. If I like the sound of something, I take it and run with it. Often, Will’s lyrics will be inspired by a story or character he’s dreamed up. For example, Death Warmed Up is about someone overcoming trouble in their life and bouncing back stronger than ever.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our Last show was at The Social in Doncaster, supporting our long-time friends StopStop. It was an awesome show, we’re having a blast playing with StopStop again, after they took us on our first ever tour back in 2024.

7. Where would you like to act/play?

Of course, it’s very easy to reply to a question like this with somewhere like Wembley Stadium, and since starting the band, Will and I have always said we aren’t going to give up until we get there. That said, there are a few venues and festivals on our bucket list, being from Nottingham, one is of course the famous Rock City, and Download festival is also one of these and is right on our doorstep. 

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Again, as with the last question, it's easy to say someone like Def Leppard or Iron Maiden. But we'd love to get on with bands who are just at the next tier of touring than us, like Asomvel, Jayler, and Sisters Doll. Plus, it’s always good fun playing with our friends, such as StopStop, Paradise Sins, White Lightning, and many more!

9. What bands have inspired you the most?

Def Leppard have always been the biggest inspiration to us as a band, not only the songs, but their production and live shows. Others include Iron Maiden, Whitesnake, Mr Big, Queen, Asomvel, and more.

10. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has asked you for?

We don’t often get too many weird requests from fans. The weirdest thing that springs to mind is when playing in Hastings, a fan asked if we had any piece of merch that he could put on his wheelchair. Our answer was to buy a t-shirt and just wear it instead, but decorating his chair with band merch was just something he did. He ended up buying a patch and sewing it onto the fabric on the back of the wheelchair!
