Interviews: Fault Of The People

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Fault Of The People from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it come out just like that?

Stina, Rhythm Guitar: Our lead guitarist had name ideas in a notebook, and this was the one that we were drawn to. He doesn’t recall how he came up with the name, but we’re glad he did!     

2. Why did you want to play this genre? 

Lexi, Vocals: For most of us, we have always loved this genre or resonated with it in some way. As a vocalist, it’s my favorite style and all the emotion that goes behind it.     

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed? 

Emily, Bass Guitar: Stina and I have been friends for a long time and were in and out of cover bands for years, working on different projects. During one of the projects, I was introduced to Richard. Those projects didn’t work out at the time, but years later led to us rejoining and forming Fault of the People.      

Lexi, Vocals: They jammed for a bit with some other members before wanting to branch out, which led Richard to find me, and I brought in the drummer after half a year or so with the band.      

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Lexi, Vocals: Jinjer, Whitechaple, Bring Me The Horizon, and some up-and-coming local bands like Fleeting Life and ExitWounds.      

Richard, Lead Guitar: Electric Callboy, Wage War, Black Veil Brides, Blessthefall, and also Fleeting Life.   

Stina, Rhythm Guitar: It’s impossible for me to choose a favorite band. Lately, my Spotify has been spinning a lot of Sleep Theory, Architects, Caskets, Wage War, Bad Omens, Dayseeker, and similar artists.    

Emily, Bass Guitar / Vocals: I’m with Stina in the fact that it’s almost impossible to choose. My playlists are all over the place, but since I’ve been trying to immerse myself in the world of metal, some favorites that are popping up right now are Wage War, Beartooth, Spiritbox, and more.   

Joe, Drums: Like most drummers, I have lots, and couldn't narrow it down to just one. Within the Ruins, Veil of Maya, Black Dahlia Murder, Spite, Volumes, The Acacia Strain, and so many more for up and coming like my homies Fleeting Life, Saving Vice, Fight From Within, Resistor, and many more there too cuz I definitely know I am missing some good ones there.         

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs? 

Lexi, Vocals: Pretty much anything inspires me to write, including my band members <3     

Stina, Rhythm Guitar: Inspiration can come from anywhere, anytime, and can pull from the past, present, or future.    

Richard, Lead Guitar: I’m usually inspired while listening to music or learning a song from a band I like. 

Joe, Drums: Not to sound cheesy by any means, but I have grooves and rhythms in my head all day long everyday and have since I was a child. Translating them into something real isn't too challenging! But never as simple as I hear or see it mentally. As far as inspiration goes, I am far more able to translate and be creative when we are actively playing shows. When we slow down or stop for the end of season, I am not nearly as creative-abled.     

6. Where was your last gig?

Lexi, Vocals: On June 4th, we played with the boys in Saving Vice in Fort Wayne, Indiana! We love those boys, and our producer, Robbie Litchfield, is the guitarist of the band.    

7. Where would you like to act? 

Stina, Rhythm Guitar: Wherever our fans want to see us!     

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Lexi, Vocals: So many icons!!! Anyone I listed as a favorite, and so many that my mom loves, like Chris Motionless and Johnny Hawkins.     

Richard, Lead Guitar: Misha Mansoor, Jason Richardson, or Cody Quistad from Wage War.     

9. Whom not? 

Richard, Lead Guitar: I feel like Elvis probably wouldn't be a good fit personally.  

   

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that? 

Lexi, Vocals: Always… I grew up doing cheerleading, choir, and even some musical productions… not too many at all, but I was always an anxious mess. My first time on stage with the band, I remember having to get a small pep talk and focus on my breathing so I wouldn’t throw up! It definitely gets easier, but every time before we go on, I get anxious. Once we start going, my stage presence just takes over!   

    

Stina, Rhythm Guitar: Remember that the people you see in the crowd are there to see YOU! Just being on stage takes a lot of courage, and very few people have the audacity to do what you’re doing.      

Richard, Lead Guitar: It never goes away. I feel like the day that you have absolutely no anxious feelings is the day you no longer love doing it!   

Joe, Drums: I carry stage fright, and have for many years. A long time ago, I realized “Joe The Performer” was who I am on stage when it's time. He is a lot more outgoing, confident, and energized. During our set, I completely forget who the other person is til the set is over. It starts during sound check. As soon as the click hits my ears, it's time.  

11. What bands have inspired you the most? 

Lexi, Vocals: I remember a few years ago, while I was in college and getting more into metal myself, I started coming across more women vocalists. Seeing Jinjer and Spiritbox made me realize that this was something I could do. I started singing a lot of them and Veil of Maya, and expanding where I heard/ learned different vocal techniques from.    

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for? 

Stina, Rhythm Guitar: We did a special run of men’s boxer briefs with our logo for a superfan. In case you were wondering, yes, there are pictures of them being worn on our social media!       

13. What do you think of your fans? 

Lexi, Vocals: They’re the best! We’re inspired by them to keep pushing because after every performance we get a flood of people who loved what they heard!   

Stina, Rhythm Guitar: Our fans are loyal, dedicated, and most of all, encouraging. We love interacting with each and every one of our fans, whether it be on social media in the comments or in person at our shows.      

Emily, Bass Guitar / Vocals: We wouldn’t be where we are without them. It’s every like, share, or comment on social media and every t-shirt or merch sale at a show. We love our fans.     

Joe, Drums: Our friends and followers are a blessing!     

Richard, Lead Guitar: The fact that we’ve made it even this far is all because of them! Everything we do is for them! We may enjoy our music and playing it, but we could never imagine not sharing it with everyone who wants to hear it!
