Interviews: Pronoias

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Power Metal band Pronoias from Chile. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or did it come out just like that?

The name Pronoias comes from the idea of “pronoia”, the opposite of paranoia: the belief that the universe, or life itself, can conspire in your favor. We saw the definition on a viral post, and we loved the meaning and how it sounds. Our music talks a lot about resilience, transformation, and creating your own reality, so the name felt like the perfect way to express that vision. 

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Because it allows us to combine everything we love: powerful metal riffs, melodic vocals, progressive arrangements, symphonic elements, and emotional storytelling. We call it *Empower Metal* because we want the music to feel heavy and cinematic, but also uplifting. 

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Only Eli and Félix knew each other before forming the band, as colleagues in the startup ecosystem. Then they met Danitza and Joaquín in the local music scene. 

4. Each band member’s favourite band?

This is always difficult because everyone listens to many different things, but here are some important names for us: 

Elizabeth: Mägo de Oz

Félix: Dream Theater

Danitza: System Of A Down

Joaquín: Iron Maiden

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We are inspired by transformation, manifestation, spiritual ascension, and the idea that we can create our own reality. We believe that musicians can channel messages and melodies from a higher intelligence, and we honor that connection to source energy. 

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was in our hometown, Viña del Mar, which is very meaningful because we don't have the opportunity to perform too often there, so it was the perfect way to let our local fans send us with the best vibes into our first European Tour. 

7. Where would you like to act?

Our dream is to play at major metal festivals in Europe. We grew up watching videos from power metal bands playing at Wacken Open Air, so that would be #1 in the list. This summer, we'll be playing in Spain and Finland, which are our priority countries for developing a local following. 

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We love power metal singers, like Timo Kotipelto (Stratovarius) and Tony Kakko (Sonata Arctica), or José Andrëa (former Mägo de Oz). Devin Townsend would also be a heavenly match. Soon we'll release a bilingual collaboration with Nitte Valo (Dreamtale, former BattleBeast) which we haven't announced anywhere else yet. We're extremely excited about this collab. 

9. Whom not?

Fascists. 

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes we have, I think we're still navigating it. But our main tip is having in-ear monitoring to make sure that you can hear yourself. Not hearing yourself well enough is terrifying because it affects your playing/singing and the whole band's coordination. If you can't have a professional solution, maybe you can get a cheap alternative from AliExpress (wireless in-ear), and at least monitor your own instrument so that you can have a bit of a boost of your own instrument in your ears. For example, you can use the headphone output of a modeller for in-ear monitoring, to get some extra definition on top of the stage mix. 

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Our main influence is prog-power metal from the early 00's. Bands like Sonata Arctica, Symphony X, Kamelot, Pagan's Mind, and Stratovarius are important references, but we also try to bring our own South American identity and language, plus a modernised approach to the genre. We recommend checking out Egregor (Chile). 

12. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A few times, they've shared their own poetry or lyrics inspired by the band. But the most significant interactions usually come from people who were deeply moved by our song "Infinito", which is in memory of loved ones we've lost. They get very emotional about their losses. 

13. What do you think of your fans?

We feel very grateful for them. It's something new for us to get asked for pictures and to sign albums. It still feels unreal. We really hope they love the new music and stay with us for as long as we exist. 

14. What do you think of our site?

For bands like us, platforms like this are very important because they help new audiences discover music beyond the mainstream. Artists need you, and we highly appreciate the effort you put in this.
