Interviews: Risabov

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Progressive Metal band Risabov from Greece. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or did it come out just like that?

It came out as "Rise Above" at first. We changed it to "Risabov" a few years later for more uniqueness.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It didn't start quite like the way it is now. Our sound was closer to Death-Thrash Metal, with more straightforward time signatures and rhythm. It evolved to a more Progressive sound as we also evolved and changed as players.

3. Each band member's favourite band?

We listen to and have been inspired by many different bands. But some key ones would be Iron Maiden, Metallica, Lamb of God, and Death. Our favourite band is Risabov, though. They really are great musicians!

4. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Probably the music we listen to, various places and views of nature, but also our difficulties in life. The world is fucked and in some ways probably beyond repair, but we like to think there is still hope, if we can find the courage to keep doing our work as a species. Our songs are about that message.

5. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was back in April 2026, and it was a small venue in West Athens. More are following up soon. The next gig will be a bigger event on June 19th in Piraeus, along with a good number of local bands.

6. Where would you like to act?

Anywhere we can! We aim for the absolute top.

7. Whom would you like to feature with?

Maybe Rotting Christ, Meshuggah, or Gojira.

8. Whom not?

Well, we don't hate anyone as long as they are not disrespectful. I guess Pop names would be a no, though. We are a Heavy Metal breed.

9. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

That's a good question! But we're afraid the answer is probably not clear. It's a trial-and-error thing, really. You jump in the water and eventually learn how to swim. You have to be brave and extravagant in your own way.

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

Maiden and Metallica are two of the key bands for sure. Personally (Mark), I really like Mikael Akerfeldt from Opeth. His style in between songs always made me laugh, and I try to be that guy for the crowd.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has asked of you?

(Mark) I recall a time back in 2016 when we played a gig in Siros island, and the following days I would go to the port town and get stopped like I was some rockstar. That was definitely a strange feeling, haha.

12. What do you think of the fans?

We consider anyone showing up for us a privilege. It's an honour to have them in our show, whether it's 25 of them or 2000. Or.. you know, hopefully more!

13. What do you think of our site?

Your sign is like a Black Metal band's logo, or a tree branch, or a doctor's prescription: Hard to read, haha. No, it looks great, keep it up, guys.

14. Something to add?

Just remember, you are in this world for a reason. You matter, don't give up on yourself, and listen to the amazing Risabov. We'll share with you all about it!
