Interviews: Symetria
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal band Symetria from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out just like that?
Vince: Truth is, it came from my son while he was sleeping as I drove him back to his mother’s when he was younger. He popped his head up and said, "Symetria, that would be a great name for a band," and so it was.
Matt: I joined late and didn’t help come up with the name.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Vince: It's what connects to me energetically the most
Kevin: It fits my style of playing well.
Matt: I chose to play metal when I first started playing drums 10 years ago. Music was always playing around me growing up, and the intensity of metal just spoke to me. To me, it gives a big “fuck you” to everything being played now.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Vince: No
Kevin: No, I answered an ad on Craigslist when they were in need of a bassist.
Matt: I did not know anyone before joining. Saw the ad and auditioned.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Vince: Overkill
Kevin: Fate’s Warning
Matt: My favorite band currently is Gwar! Why? Because everyone is so serious, joke with shit and spray some blood!!
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Vince: Life, thoughts, observations, and music are the most.
Kevin: Anything and everything inspires me. You never know when inspiration is going to hit.
Matt: The reason I write music is that music saved me, and I just want to give back. If I can help one person, I’ve done my job.
6. Where was your last gig?
Vince: In NJ at Metalfest XI
Matt: Last gig was at the New Jersey Metalfest XI (Metal Church up next!!)
7. Where would you like to act?
Kevin: In front of 100,000 people would be unbelievable.
Matt: I’d like to play at any Danny Wimmer festival like Sonic Temple, Inkcarceration, Welcome to Rockville, Louder than Life Ect.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Vince: Parkway Drive
Kevin: HA! Iron Maiden or Metallica would be nice.
Matt: I would want to do a song with Jonathon Davis from Korn. I love his style of writing and the pure emotion behind his voice.
9. Whom not?
Kevin: Tribute bands.
Matt: I probably wouldn’t want to work with Fred Durst just from all the horror stories.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Vince: Not really since grade school. Bigger shows there are a little nervous till we get rolling, but that's about it.
Kevin: Not since my first show. If you do have some apprehensions about playing live, they will go away as soon as that adrenaline hits.
Matt: I’ve had stage fright before. And I had it at the past show, but once I get through the intro of the first song, I’m set. My nerves only come out when it’s a bigger show than before. But after those first 15-20 seconds, it’s like I’m a different person. I would advise those who have stage fright to focus on just playing. Pretend it’s just you and your band.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Vince: Suicidal Tendencies, Overkill, Alice Cooper, Maiden
Kevin: Iron Maiden, Fates Warning, and Pink Floyd.
Matt: Nirvana, Slipknot, Korn, Linkin Park, and Mudvayne inspired me the most.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Kevin: The simplest thing, an autograph.
Matt: Honestly haven’t had a weird request yet. But I guess the one that sticks with me was the first CD I signed. Was my first show with Symetria. We were at Reverb and we fucking killed it. We all signed a copy of “Where Did We Go Wrong,” and it went to this little girl in the front who was headbanging with Mike. Thought it was pretty cool.
13. What do you think of your fans?
Vince: Eternally grateful that they enjoy what we do.
Kevin: Love em’. None of us would be doing this without them.
Matt: I think our fans are awesome! It’s great to see people support live music and local bands!
14. What do you think of our site?
Vince: Awesome site, enjoyed looking through it.
Kevin: It’s a great source for information on new and upcoming bands.
Matt: I like it, everything you need right there!
15. Something to add?
Vince: Create, don't copy. Posers still suck.
Kevin: Support local music, and the local bands need to support each other.
Matt: Nothing to add, honestly. I guess throw out GO BIRDS lol
