Interviews: Mindvile

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Black Metal/Death Metal band Mindvile from the USA and Spain. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it or came out just like that?

We discussed the band’s theme and what topics the songs would cover, and we felt this was the right name to choose.

The band’s name consists of two parts: ‘Mind’ and ‘vile’. The theme is to recount chilling stories and events and to try to delve into the psyche of both the perpetrators and their victims; hence the play on words representing the study of the most vile minds that humanity has ever produced.

We also found the similarity between “vil” and “ville” interesting because Mindvile is an imaginary town where all the most perverse and twisted minds, both those who have recently roamed our streets and those who still walk them, will gather.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

It’s not that we set out to play any particular genre; it just turned out that way.

We’ve been playing with various local bands since we were young and have explored different styles of metal, as we’ve always loved this music and its variations, but you could say we enjoy the more extreme styles the most, such as black and death metal, styles that stray from the conventional and reveal the darker side of the world.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, we’ve known each other all our lives, but we’d never played together until we decided to form the band.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Our tastes aren't all that different; we like black metal classics like Emperor or Mayhem, but we're open to any music that conveys emotion, is well-crafted, and reflects hard work and dedication.

But we always lean more toward music that portrays evil and suffering.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our inspiration comes both from the songs created by our predecessors in this genre and from films, horror stories, our everyday lives, our moods and the experiences we’ve had and so on.

And, of course, the wickedness of humanity and the crimes committed by some people in this world.

6. Where was your last gig?

We’ve never played live with this band. At the moment, there’s also a significant geographical distance to contend with.

However, it would be great to be able to present and perform this album live when we can and when the opportunity arises.

7. Where would you like to act?

I think everyone would love to play at Beyond the Gates, but we'd be happy to play at any venue where people come to listen to us and enjoy our music.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Never. You get nervous at the start of your concerts, because you want everything to sound great so that both you and the audience can enjoy yourselves, but once you’ve started there’s no turning back and you just have to get on with it.

However, if you love the music you play and what you do, it’s simply a matter of enjoying yourself, and the fear disappears.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

All the bands we have listened to since we were children have influenced us. We are all a collection of experiences and influences that shape who we are.

So we’re inspired not only by extreme metal bands like Emperor, Dimmu Borgir, and Marduk, but also by King Diamond, Metallica, Blind Guardian, Iron Maiden...

It's a great place to discover and explore extreme music bands; we love it, and it's a pleasure to be featured there.
