Interviews: In Ad Hominem
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or came out just like that?
While reading, we came across the Latin concept "ad hominem," which literally means "against the man." In other words, in an argument, the person is attacked instead of their arguments in an attempt to gain some kind of advantage. Today, the corrupt system seeks to benefit a select few and screw over the rest; this is a direct attack on the population, regardless of their social standing. It's an interesting concept that we incorporated into our name, In Ad Hominem.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Since we were teenagers, we've listened to rock and metal since our school days, and we always dreamed of forming a metal band. We love the energy, the power, the feeling, and the musical technique that make metal such an intense genre.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
The three of us have been friends since childhood. We grew up together in the seaside resort of San Sebastián and immersed ourselves in the world of music as teenagers. We've always shared this dream of having a band.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Giordano (vocals and guitar) is a huge fan of bands like Metallica, Dream Theater, Angra, and Opeth. Roberto (drummer) is a big fan of Sepultura, Dream Theater, Iron Maiden, and Nightwish. And I, Lucio (bassist and backing vocals), am a huge fan of Metallica, Nevermore, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Morbid Angel, Death, and many more.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
First and foremost, our love for music, and metal in particular. Inspiration comes from life itself, from human situations, which are often painful, causing anger, disappointment, and sadness. We often go through dark times, but that doesn't mean it's bad, because these experiences ultimately help us grow as people. Sometimes you have to fall to the bottom of the abyss to be reborn.
6. Where was your last gig?
It was in Santiago, Chile, at a venue called MiBar on August 6, 2026. We played with our friends from the band Caospectro.
7. Where would you like to act?
In all Spanish-speaking countries, and why not, in the rest of the world too.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
A dream of ours is to share the stage with the bands we grew up listening to and who continue to be our influences (Iron Maiden, Metallica, etc.), and also with more current bands like Gojira, Opeth, etc.
9. Who's not?
With nu-metal bands in general.
10. Has any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Any advice for beginners on how to overcome it? I think everyone who starts out on stage experiences a bit of fear or stage fright, especially in the beginning when nobody knows your music. The advice is simple: firmly believe in your musical abilities and what you've created. This allows you to enjoy your music on stage, and the audience quickly picks up on that.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
We're from the generation that grew up listening to the Big 4 (Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax) and heavy metal classics like Iron Maiden, Helloween, and Judas Priest.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
We're a new band, so we haven't had any strange requests yet.
13. What do you think of your fans?
They're the driving force behind what we do. They're the ones who bring the metal scene to life, and without their support, we wouldn't get anywhere. We are eternally grateful to our fans; therefore, we always try to give our all live and deliver quality music.
14. What do you think of our site?
It's very comprehensive with interesting information about the new generation of metal, and it's also entertaining and dynamic. We can stay up-to-date on the scene just by taking a look at the website.
