Interviews: Scarblade

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal band Scarblade from Sweden. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name? Did you plan it, or came out just like that?

Hi,

This is Alicke, the lead singer of the heavy metal band Scarblade from Sweden. Thank you for this interview! Well...back in 2015, we wanted to have a short, easy-to-remember band name and a band name that represents our genre, heavy metal. The idea was born in the studio of George Aspiotis in Athens, Greece.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

There is no other reason than the fact that we are all (more or less) influenced by bands like Judas Priest, Pretty Maids, Accept, and other heavy metal bands that are legendary and represent that specific genre. We prefer, though, to call our music just metal, since we have a bunch of modern elements in our music too, and we all can agree that we love metal music!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Most of us have been a part of the Gothenburg metal scene in Sweden, both as fans and musicians. So four of us have been friends/known each other before becoming the current lineup altogether. Our new guitarist, Josip, was a fresh and new addition to the band, also meaning that he didn't know us. Now we are all a team, stronger than ever and good friends!

4. Each band member's favourite band?

It's hard to say, and the answers may be unexpected. My personal favourite is Kamelot, and though there are a lot more bands I could name, I will have to stick to that single one.

Johan's (keyboardist) favorite band is the Ark, Jorge's (bassist) is Rush, Viktor's (drummer) is Judas Priest, and last but absolutely not least, Josip's (guitarist) favourite band is High on Fire. As you can see, we have a lot of different influences, and that makes composing music very exciting and interesting at the same time!

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Inner reflections and feelings, but also the social and political situation in the world, can inspire me a lot to write lyrics. I would like to make clear, though, that we do not choose a side politically through our music. We compose songs depending on what inspires us, and I personally even like our songs to have a symbolic touch so that the fans can give our songs their own meaning. That's how music becomes special to us! When it comes to composing the music itself, influences play an important role in how the songs will be built, and there are a lot of them. Too many to name!

6. Where was your last gig?

The latest show we played was on the 5th of September this year in Belgium. We performed at the Female Fronted Violence Festival.

7. Where would you like to act?

A dream would be to perform at Sweden Rock and Masters of Rock. Those are fantastic festivals. Touring Europe is basically our future goal now that our album "Guardians of Time" will be released soon!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

I would love to have a duet with Tommy Karevik from Kamelot, Floor Jansen, and Elize Ryd from Amaranthe. Rob Halford and Doro Pesch would also be a dream come true!

9. Who's not?

There are no artists I can name, simply because I do not know people personally many times, and therefore I cannot be judgemental or have a strong opinion. We are open and welcoming to any future collaborations!

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

None of us have experienced stage fright, because we love what we do and being on stage. It feels natural for us. We would suggest anyone with stage fright, though, to try using the adrenaline as attitude and energy to deliver a great show on stage!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

As mentioned before, we are influenced by bands like Judas Priest, Pretty Maids, Accept, Wasp, Doro, etc. Many amazing bands to choose from!

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We are fortunate to have amazing fans, so we cannot recall anything weird that a fan may have asked for.

13. What do you think of your fans?

We are grateful to have amazing fans that are very polite and nice to us. We are so thankful for them!

14. What do you think of our site?

You guys are doing an amazing job! Keep up the good work.

15. Something to add?

I would like to thank you so much once again for this interview and remind the fans that our album "Guardians of Time" will be released on October 30th by Wormholedeath Records. We will also announce new show dates, so stay tuned!
