Behind The Artworks: Thy Catafalque - XIII: Sárga Erdő (2026)
This is an analogue photograph taken by a Hasselblad 500CM medium format camera with an 80mm lens on Delta3200 film. Black and white originally. by László Horváth (https://weirdiegrizzly.com).
The photo itself was not meant to be a cover. It was taken during a Renaissance-themed photography workshop in Budapest, Hungary, in February this year. I really liked the image when I saw it, and finally it was chosen to be the cover art for XIII: Sárga erdő.
The only changes I made to the original is the slight darkening of the background. The atmosphere is solemn, sad, and beautiful at the same time, and it also conveys a sense of timelessness: you cannot really tell the era it was shot in. It was important to put something analogue, manual, human-made to the front of this album, and it is true for the rest of the packaging artwork as well.
It is also worth mentioning that the model for the photo is the same lady, Orsolya Pintér, who was portrayed on the front cover of the previous album, XII: A gyönyörű álmok ezután jönnek. Moreover, she has done a lot of paintings and illustrations for the band, including the inner artwork of these recent records, T-shirts, and tour posters for Thy Catafalque.
XIII: Sárga erdő is out November 20 on Season of Mist
