Behind The Tracks: Backbone - Dissolved In Atman (Single) (2026)
“Dissolved in Atman” is the sixth track on the album and was chosen as the second single, in contrast to the song-oriented and straightforward “Radical Mystic”. Unlike that track, it is a thirteen-minute monster, the first half of which is based on mantric percussion and repetitive guitar and synthesiser drones. Musically, they are closest to bands such as Dark Buddha Rising. In the second half, however, it explodes with a crushing cascade of post-metal sounds and Piotr’s powerful growls.
Lyrically, the song tells of the most important moment in the Mystic’s life: the moment of achieving enlightenment and union with the divine. In absolute darkness, the figure encounters a ‘sea of souls’ calling out to him in many voices, and he himself slowly loses himself and fades into this mass, only to suddenly become one with them and truly ‘find himself’. The lyrics were inspired by Dharma- based religions such as Hinduism and Buddhism, where the theme of the path to union with the Absolute is one of the most important elements of doctrine. Similar themes can also be found in Platonic philosophy and the vast tree of philosophy and religion that springs from it.
Musically, the track emerged from a single jam session, which began with a solitary drum beat and ended with a lone riff. From this loose, amorphous mass, a structure comprising four distinct sections took shape. Two are devoted to the recitation of ‘souls’, whilst one provides the harmony leading to ‘unification’ and the last one is a crushing conclusion of the moment of ‘enlightenment’. To achieve the effect of a ‘sea of souls’ speaking to the Mystic, the whole band and the three guest female vocalists recited the entire text in turn; during the mixing process, all the voices were blended together to create the impression that the speakers’ voices were intertwining. In addition, Piotr and Barbara added their own whispers and shouts, which heighten the sense of uneasiness and paranoia.
The result is our most extraordinary and trance-like track, which sounds exactly as we’d planned, and we hope it will whet your appetite for the upcoming album “Ama Nesciri”.
