Behind The Tracks: The Feral Kids - Shine On Your Role (Single) (2026)
“Shine On Your Role” was one of the band’s first songs and was already featured on our first demo, recorded back in 2023. The song was written by our guitarist, Renko, who came up with the intro riff and the verse melody in pretty much one sitting. The first time he played them at rehearsal, everyone was instantly hyped. The song captured the raw power and energy of bands like The Hellacopters, Guns N’ Roses, and Iggy & The Stooges. By the next rehearsal, Renko had finished the chorus, and we polished the final touches together as a band. The whole process felt completely effortless — everyone just clicked with the song right away.
The lyrics and vocal melody were originally written by our first vocalist, Matti Junell, but our current singer, Anti, really connected with the lyrics and decided to keep them as they were. In Anti’s interpretation, the song channels the vibe of the TV show Californication. The protagonist puts on a carefree, jet-setting socialite persona, while back home, unpaid bills are scattered across the floor and their dreams have become a prison of their own mind. The track feels like cruising down the Sunset Strip in a convertible, only to eventually pull up outside a house that’s a total dump.
With its infectious energy and straightforward, driving rock groove, the song has also become a massive live favorite for both the audience and the band.
