Behind The Tracks: Killing Our Darlings - Aftermass (Single) (2026)

"Aftermass" started life as a short little piece of synthy glitch music we made for a promotional post for a gig with the wonderful Glasgow-based synth-pop metal band, Artax. We liked the basic idea and decided to develop it into a full song. The original piece was relatively slow and doomy, so it was sped up and became the intro and break of the song. The rest of the music and its structure came about very quickly, pretty much finished in one afternoon of writing. From there, the band added their parts before we moved on to lyric writing. Lyrically, our vocalist (Sean) was inspired by evangelical Christianity and their stance on homosexuality. He wanted to write from the point of view of an LGBTQ+ couple born into a world that would condemn them for their very existence, and the anguish and shame they may feel trying to be accepted while hiding their true selves.
