Interviews About Albums: The Autumn Aurora - False Idols (2026)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Italian Post-Punk/Darkwave band The Autumn Aurora to ask questions about their album, "False Idols".

1. What can you say about this new album "False Idols"?

Our debut album, "False Idols," is a cohesive post-punk/darkwave work built on a sophisticated interplay between two basses with distinct yet complementary roles: one follows the drums with a straight, solid, and punchy rhythmic pulse, providing the structure and rhythmic foundation of the tracks, while the other develops arpeggios and phrases that weave together with the first, adding depth, movement, and a more melodic dimension.

Al is enriched by orchestral synths and unconventional tribal rhythms. The technical approach features layered effects, while the lyrics and powerful vocals explore introspective themes and offer a cultural critique of contemporary "False Idols."

Our sound is characterized by the interplay of two bass guitars with distinct yet complementary roles: one follows the drums with a straight, solid, and punchy rhythmic pulse, providing the structure and rhythmic foundation of the tracks, while the other develops arpeggios and phrases that weave together with the first, adding depth, movement, and a more melodic dimension.

2. What is the meaning of the album name?

The album takes its title from the track "False Idols"—a song that denounces a society indoctrinated by propagandistic mass media, which serve as the primary window onto a false world for most people: a world of falsity in society, politics, religion, ethics, and morality.

Yet, it shouts to the world that, despite this, we have learned to detach ourselves from the media spectacle; in this desperate solitude, we have rediscovered ourselves, grateful to have survived the hardships and a world—built on money, smiles, and an easy life—that does not belong to us.

Ultimately, this concept opens the door to a range of themes deeply important to us, acting as a critical mirror that blends psychological introspection with social disillusionment.

3. Which one is the composer of the album?

So far, the main musical themes have largely been Stefano's ideas; we then all arranged and built our own parts over them, blending together and constructing each track as a group.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Vera: Every single track means the world to me—they all represent a piece of who I am. But if I were absolutely forced to pick a fourth track, a fourth single to put out, it would have to be "Jeremiah Laments".I've always felt really close to these kinds of topics; they hit me deep down and matter loads to me. With this song, I wanted to capture that sheer discomfort and pain you feel when you're just standing by, completely helpless against so much indifference. It’s definitely a track that the whole band feels incredibly close to.

Francesca: Jeremiah Laments

Stefano: False Idols, Wasteland

Chiara: It’s really hard to choose, but I’d say I’m particularly attached to Plastic Altar, as it was our first single and I think it’s one of the songs that best represents who we are as a band. Jeremiah Laments is also very special to me because it’s quite emotional, and I feel it represents the direction we’re moving towards. And finally, Surrender - on a personal level, it’s probably the most fun for me to play on drums!

Fabrizio: Personally, I feel a deep passion for almost all the tracks; each one captures a specific aspect of the times we live in, whether regarding intimate daily life or shared collective experiences. I have a particularly strong musical connection to songs like "False Idols," "About You," and "Jeremiah Laments"—playing my keyboard lines on these tracks feels like experiencing pure emotion.

5. Is there a special message in this album? If there is what it is?

Overall, we strive to express our creativity with the utmost passion, inevitably shaped by the world we inhabit.

Our musical style drives us to attack our instruments, screaming our indictments to the world—railing against modern artificial deities, hollow claims of success, technological addiction, existential emptiness, and the superficiality of social media.

Vera’s lyrics also delve into human fragility, addressing feelings of disorientation, urban alienation, and the quest for authenticity.

Yet, they do not seek nihilism for its own sake; rather, they aim for catharsis through the acceptance of one's own pain.

Through a vocal power that is at times operatic, Vera delivers these messages as an emotional, dramatic manifesto, heightening the contrast between the harshness of social critique and the soul's vulnerability.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

Jeremiah laments

I don’t know what you’re waiting for This land is full of corpes
All around there’s no pity anymore
Oh Lord ! What are you watching for ?
These barefoot kids under the snow
Asking for food their parents gone and the end of the war
Jeremiah Laments for his land
An endless war
Who do you think started it all ?
Who was the first ? Who was the first ? There’s not a good reason for this endless war
In another part of this earth
There’s a place free from envy and your jealousy Where’s no more women raped
Innocent children left to face, in a Certain death No , No more War
I don’t know what you’re waiting for alone.

About you

How can I pretend that you understand what it feels like If the world revolves only around you Say:
“ Take me out for a breath for to see that ocean’s line “ But you don’t see that crow
The black crow in my mind
It wonts to let me go
Remind me of you
Why don’t you know that you can’t give love a chance You only wish to wake me up
Wake me up from my dream of love ( for you )
How can I pretend that you understand the many things I see About you and your perfect way of loving me you Say:
“ Give me a breath just one time from what you desire “
But I’m still seeing that crow
Flying in my ears won’t let me go
About you
About you I know that you can’t give love a chance
You ( Just ) want to wake me up, wake from my dream of love ( for you )
But I’m still seeing the crow Flying in my ears
Won’t let me go
About you
About you I know that you can’t give love a chance You only wish to wake me up
Wake me from my dream of love.

But if not

Watching the lines in my hand means I’ll have a short but glorious life
I hope it’s not looking in my head
Watching the colour
Of your tears is blood
But I know it’s just what you’ve done
I hope some blood remains in your veins
But if not, But if not,
But if not, But if not,
But if not, But if not,
Out of my mind, of my mind...
I’m watching you tonight as I do every night
Your dance so cruel it strikes my heart
Your dance is screeches trought my head Tonight what I see is a body lost in a spiral dance Movements stripped of all sense
But if not, But if not, But if not, But if not, But if not, But if not, Out of my mind, Out of my mind...

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album ? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank specially?

Fundamentally, all the life around us stimulates and inspires us in what we do and how we do it.

As well as the entire production and realization process of this first album, and the professionals with whom we collaborated. And that's why We would like to thank our friend and sound engineer, Danilo Silvestri, who handled the entire recording, mixing, and mastering process for the album; we immediately clicked regarding the creative and technical approach.

The mixing was done entirely in the analog domain too—taking it back to the 80s. No "recall" function, no tweaking things a week later; we mixed one track a day, old-school style: finish one, move on to the next—no doubts, no second-guessing. Since we finished everything, I think each of us has listened to the entire album hundreds of times—in the car, at home, or on headphones—and we couldn't wait to share it with everyone and experience the feedback and the audience's response...

And finally, we would also like to thank Alessandro Liccardo from Volcano Records & Promotion; we hit it off immediately, and the work he and his entire team have done—and continue to do—is truly fantastic.

He is a great artist and an extremely dedicated, professional producer, as well as a wonderful person.

We feel very fortunate and honored to have shared this debut album with him.

8. Something to add?

We would like to thank Alessandro Liccardo and Volcano Records & Promotion for partnering with us on the release of our debut album; they have done a fantastic job. We also want to thank you and the entire music press that has supported us—both at home and abroad—as well as the venues and event organizers who have booked us. Above all, however, we are grateful to everyone who follows us at our shows and on our social media channels. We are deeply appreciative of the growth in organic visibility, which continues to motivate us more and more. For this reason, starting with our upcoming show in Rome on October 10th—where we will officially launch the release—we will also be performing some unreleased tracks that didn't make it onto the album but will form the foundation for a future release.
