Interviews About Albums: Datura Lodge - Datura Lodge (2026)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Progressive Rock band Datura Lodge to ask questions about their album, "Datura Lodge".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

Nicky B: The album is the culmination of everything "W" and I have always wanted to do musically. We describe ourselves as hard rock meets prog, but I think anyone who listens will hear that there's a little bit of everything we love on here - metal, prog, and beyond.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

Nicky B: The album is self-titled, and our band name comes from two sources. "Datura" is the name of one of my favorite Tori Amos songs, and "Lodge" comes from Twin Peaks.

3. Who is the composer of the CD/EP?

Nicky B: Both "W" and I wrote all the music and lyrics on the album. We would write separately and then bring the nearly finished ideas to each other to work on arrangements, parts, and the finishing touches.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

W: The psychological horror-inspired music video for "HOLE" is what I'd show anyone interested in checking us out. We're really proud of the song as well as the music video.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is, what is it?

Nicky B: We love secrets and easter eggs, but there aren't any specific things coded in here. In general, the album's theme is disillusionment, and I hope that will be apparent and resonate with anyone who listens.

W: It sounds corny (and it is), but I think underlying the album is the fact that if you focus on something and put the time in, you can make it happen. This whole thing started as us playing our songs badly cross-legged in Nick's house with no game plan at all, but grew and grew into an album that we are proud of.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

W: There is a lyric in the song "CAN", which is the heaviest song on the album, about a time that I was feeling down and out walking back from school in the rain when a car full of guys purposefully drove into a puddle and absolutely drenched me. It was like a cartoon. I can still appreciate that it was hilarious, and I put it in the song. It also puts into perspective how cool and well-liked I am.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank specially?

W: Our collaborators who helped bring our music to life. Adam Holzman from Miles Davis' and Steven Wilson's bands on keyboards. His son Russell Holzman (also from Steven Wilson) on drums. Ben Karas from Thank You Scientist and the excellent death metal band Slaughtersun engineered, mixed, and co-produced the album. Ben also plays a violin solo on the song "Stone." Samantha Feyerabend-Muljat did all of the artwork, directed the "HOLE" video, and helped give us (two dorks) an awesome and distinct visual identity.

8. Something to add?

W: As of October 2, 2026, the album is available and streaming everywhere!

Nicky B: Give it a spin and let us know what you think.
