Interviews About Albums: Oöhna Call - eKKo (2026)
1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?
Our new album, "EKKO," is our second full-length release, following the album "Mimesis" and two EPs. We are very proud of this record; we feel it strikes a beautiful balance between the various aesthetics we hold dear—ranging from cinematic atmospheres and the abrasive edge of noise music to touches of indie rock. We recorded it in just two days, essentially live and with a sense of urgency, and we are delighted by the positive reception it has received shortly after its release on the Bitume label—which we would also like to thank for placing their trust in us.
2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?
The album is titled "EKKO"—the Danish word for "echo." Each of our records explores a specific concept: erasure for our debut EP, Hidden; the soundtrack to an imagined film for Mimesis; and a dark, enigmatic floral bouquet—serving as a musical counterpart to a painting by Klimt—for Bauerngarten. As the name suggests, EKKO explores various iterations of the echo theme, both through track titles (such as "circle," "Trauma," and "Reminiscence") and within the musical structures themselves.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?
Oöhna Call is a trio, and the three of us compose every track together. Our working method is always the same: the songs invariably stem from improvisation sessions that we gradually structure. No one shows up with pre-rehearsed musical ideas. It is a process we value highly; it fosters a great sense of shared creativity and cohesion, and often leads to wonderful surprises.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
That’s a tough choice you’re asking me to make. It’s hard to single out one track from the whole, because the theme is "echo," meaning every song is interdependent. Still, let’s be honest: the promotional process already led us to highlight one track ahead of the album’s release. That track is "Palindrome"—a haunting, heavy, and noisy song that’s really fun to play live.
5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is, what is it?
We do not aim to convey a message through our music. Our ambition is to offer music that liberates the imagination, that drifts where words fail, that creates branching waves of echoes—poetry without words.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
The only spoken words on the record open and close its musical circle: "You have to leave now and never come here." This dialogue is taken from David Cronenberg’s film The Fly. Within the framework of our concept, the phrase evokes both the desire and the difficulty of breaking free from toxic patterns of repetition—as seen, for instance, in the current rise of neo-fascism across Europe and the world.
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank specially?
Our way of working draws primarily on our subconscious. It is therefore difficult to speak of explicit inspirations, even though we are influenced, shocked, moved, or amazed by so many things in our lives. For my part, I would like to thank my two musical partners—with whom I love playing—and I hope listeners will enjoy our album, "EKKO."
8. Something to add?
Thanks a lot Jon for this interview and your support.
